HELP....Rear tire replacement

OK. For the first time, I thought I could pull my rear tire, myself, and re-install with new rubber. Got it off OK, but when I went to put everything back together I can't get the brake caliper where the rod goes through back on. It is too tight and won't fit?? It is close, but I can't get the dumb thing to fit???

Everything I have read it is fairly simple, am I doing something wrong??

Any tricks to get it back together again??

I have let it alone tonight, watching NCAA.

Im going to ask a stupid question but its intended for those others that dont have a clue The axle may be put in place without the caliper and the wheel can be easily rotated along with the meshing of the drive spline, correct? The spacer has been replaced in the correct manner, right? There after withdraw the axle and hook in the caliper. Done! Its so easy even a troglodyte can do it

yes to both questions...that is why it doesn't make sense? I did put it in gear to get the spline to match and fit. Should it be in neutral? Can't imagine that would make a difference. The spacer on the caliper side, to me, appears to be installed correctly. There is an inset lip on one side, I put that so it is on the rim side, not the caliper side. The one part I didn't mention is the rim is new, not what was on the bike. i wanted to mount a car tyre and swap the rims when I wanted to go to the dark side....

I agree with your comments, it should be a simple install.

Is the caliper completely detached? Put it on the axle first. Detached except for the hydraulic line of-course.

Spoke to a dealer today, and they have never heard of my issue?? The caliper bracket that fits in between the spacer and the frame, which is where the axle goes through is about a "knats butt" to thick. I asked if I placed both my feet on the rim pushing and putting a strap on the frame and pulling to get the caliper to fit may work?? Can anyone explain that to me???

If it is a new rim I would be curious about the wheel bearings are they seated in the rim all the way?

It came off an RIII that was rode home and taken off for a trike conversion. The nipples are still on the tire.

Heretic is right, there isn't anything complicated at all back there. I know I can't think of anything that would cause that other than simple misalignment. Have you tried using the other wheel?

Got it on...kept pulling the rim off the spindle, rotating and re-seating. Still had to push on the rim and pull the strap on the frame. Had another set of hands slide the caliper bracket in place, guala. Took another 30 minutes to put it all back together. Turned the tire in the garage, burned some nipples off. Ouch, good to go. Now waiting for warmer riding weather..
