I was looking thru the HD website trying to find out a price on the Tour Pak Trunk (was unsuccessful....no parts look up) in case I buy the R3T in the future. Had already checked out the Fleetliner and some of the others shown on our site so I wanted to see what HD had to offer.

Since that didn't work out I wanted to see if they had ever updated their GPS offerings any and they had one that was called the Road Tech which was "made for Harley Davidson from Garmin and about the only difference in it from my Zumo 550 (and the HD was a Zumo 550) is that is listed HD dealerships which is normal as the Gold Wing GPS from Garmin lists Honda dealerships.

What got me was the price...$799, a pretty good markup over the (I paid $649 I think) original $699 price from Garmin. I guess if Triumph offered it as well it would probably be priced in the same range as the HD model only listing Triumph dealerships.

Before I get flamed for cruising around the HD site...in my defense I've got a lot of time on my hands here....what can I say, except that an HD is not in my future.

Hey Dennis,
I don't blame ya for lookin.
Heck H-D's have every accessory known to man.
Thats where I got my buckhorns I still haven't got installed,
Thats what the advertisment said on my new mirrors,
bought off line tho so no HighDollar box.
Probably also why the sequential blinker part won't work???
But if I see somethin I like, I'll use it, I don't care what bike its made for.
example?
Kaw boulavard wide body pileon seat, victory horn cover, 3 1939 ford hood ornaments..

There's nothing wrong with HD motorcycles, contrary to some of the BS inuendo you'll read in here. Their prices aren't anymore inflated than Triumph or any other manufacturer. The manufacturers know (rightfully so) customers will pay a premium to have logo on the accessory. Go look at HD Helmets. An HJC 3/4 helmet will be $199 at the dealership or you can go buy the helmet online for $60. The difference? HD logo.

very true Darrell,
that HD (high dollar) logo means alot to some folks.
I'll take function over logo every time,
but then, I ain't in it to impress anybody but me,
everytime I twist the throttle.
So I really don't care if its not a "genuine OEM" part or accessory.
I like what I like, and if I wanted one like everybody elses,
I'd just buy bolt on accessories instead of going for "unique".

That's how I am. The hardcore HD guys are the ones that drive a lot of nonsense postings you read and I have to admit it's hard not to poke a little fun at guys that dress up like pirates to ride in the name of "Lifestyle". But, the bikes are as solid as anything on the road. That wasn't the case at one time, but it is now days and has been for over 20 years.

yea, my first harly was a bowling ball (AMF).
Bought it right out of boot camp, early 70's.
I'd have to say my favorite was an old police special I got at a police auction.
It was a 54 pan and I really liked it better than that 78 low rider or 72 super glide.
but along with all the breakdowns, and headaches was a lifestyle I loved being a part of.
Now that I'm older and I hope a little wiser, I ain't in it for that, I'm in it to enjoy the ride for however long the Lord lets me keep on being able to ride and enjoy it.
Sorry Dennis, surely wasn't trying to hijack your thread.

He'll likely buy a Harley. He's been on the Hondas, etc... His life won't be complete until he has at least one. ;)

Daryl, the only way I would even consider a Harley (they had their chance on my in 2003) is they come out with the Ultra with a water cooled engine....then I'd look at it and put it in for consideration (the V-Rod is just not my style of bike). My days of riding air cooled engines are over...I believe!

In 2003 when I was in Djibouti working with the same company I attempted to get a 100th anniversary Ultra Classic Electric Glide and was informed they only could get 8 allotted to mideast sales (military car/motorcycle(US) buying entity) and I was number 11 on the list. That led me to the 1st of my two Gold Wings. When I had to chose between my two rides (Gold Wing and Rocket) when buying my new Mustang (wife said one had to go if I got the new toy) the Gold Wing went because my wife doesn't ride much so the Rocket made more sense. If I am in the market for a new bike next year the Gold Wing is back in consideration but only if it is a totally new redesigned bike (bigger engine, more options, yada, yada, yada, etc...) other than that I am looking at the R3T currently as the best route to take.

That's an interesting contrast in bikes. The R3T isn't even in the same league (competition wise) as the Goldwing, AFAICT, in terms of features, etc... I look at the R3T as a competitor for bikes like HD's Road King, Road Glide, Heritage Softail, etc...; Yamaha's Road Liner; Kawasaki Vulcan LT (I think that's the model), Susuki Boulevard, etc... The R3T really isn't a "Touring" bike, IMO, as far as a "dresser" style.

I read an article in a magazine about a new European styled Sportster. Without going into much detail they pointed out that someone built their own 20 yrs ago that weighed 50 pounds less, was quicker, etc. etc. Anyway they scoff technology in favor of old school everything. It may slow, underpowered, vibrate, and old but it sure is loud mentality seems to work for those that like that sort of thing.
