Exactly what I noticed on the Avons!! They start looking like race tires when pushed in warm weather and ball all over the place. I've been riding the E-max harder and in warmer weather and it doesn't ball, it just gets the blue tint of a heated tire.

This isn't my picture but it shows exactly what my Avon rear was starting to do before it went flat. Technically it's from being overheated, but the root cause imho is from being very soft both in compound and construction paired with a big powerful bike and a rider with a heavy hand. Great feeling tire as long it's above 40f outside lol:

EEsch - once they go blue, usually the oil's burnt off and the rubber/carbon simply turns to dust.

Pretty much all my tires have turned blue, according to Michelin it's a natural occurrence and doesn't signify anything negative.

I have a mate in his 70's who was a designer at Michelin in France. He says it most certainly does matter if you don't remedy. If you just keep thrashing - they're toast. Ages ago I did see some good videos on an Aussie Track Racing site about Tyre blueing. Sorry cannot remember where.

My experience is that once they go blue - they wear out very fast. 140km-ish of 140-160kmh cruising - on curvy motorway in Summer - Just over 1mm of rubber taken off. That saw off the Metzlers and I have never gone back. Fortunately it was a ride homeward. The remaining rubber was so soft you could ball it off with the palm of your hand. My tyre guy is next door to Triumph Spain and he took it to show them that it is inadequate rubber for Spain in summer. They just shrugged.
