So with 0 miles rear tire tread depth was 6cm, at 1K miles 5cm now at 2K miles, 4.5cm. Not riding any easier. So will the last couple of cm's last 10k? Curious minds want to know.

Mileage

Ya @ 6k you'll be ready. I went to 7.5 but you could see the center seam. Mine's an 05 standard. As they say " Your mileage may differ". I get 6k on the Harley too even though the shop says everybody gets 10k. Go figure

I only got 4800km (3000 miles) from my last Mertz but looking to double that with an Avon - so far so good. I don't do burn outs but do like to "feel" the grunt perhaps a bit more than is necessary....:D If you can get 6+K miles out of one I reckon you're doing well.

By the way, I'm sure you mean mm not cm but I get your drift. I'm not aware of the rubber being harder the further down you get. Perhaps, when the tyre is brand new it's very round so you'll probably wear down the centre more quickly than once it's a bit flatter and starts to widen the contact point. Just a thought. Also, with the torque these bikes have it only takes a tiny bit extra with your right hand to rip a bit more off the tread. Maybe you've mellowed just a little.

Other thing is that at the end of its life you can go from thinking you have a bit left to having nothing in just a couple of rides. The last little bit just seems to vanish.

I found the Metz OK with no real complaints except for wear - until I switched to Avon. There was a big improvement in dry handling and the ride was smoother. I've pushed the bike about as hard as you can on winding roads and it handles like a dream. Have heard others say they're quieter too but there's no way I can hear that over my exhaust.

In the wet it looses traction fairly easily under hard acceleration in all gears, but so did the Metz. Seems sure footed enough round the bends, though, but I don't push too hard in the wet.

Probably had a more noticeable thandling difference when I put Avon on the front, IMO.

For me, Avon offers better handling, smoother ride and hopefully about 50-100% better mileage (and was $10 cheaper!!). I think they look better too. I've also commented before that it seems to sit flatter and therefore wider than the Metz, which would mean slightly wider contact.
