I got a call from one of the operators at one of our remote terminals last week.

He said Jim why does the fire alarm at the wharf keep going off?

My first question to him was is there a fire?

He hesitated and said sh*t let me go check! :eek::eek::eek:

Turns out there was no fire it was just a circuit breaker that had tripped causing the failsafe circuit to alarm. ;)

This always amazes me, we work in facility maintenance and and we get calls like yours all the time too, "the flow switch keeps showing no flow, its faulty, come and replace it" "the pressure gauge shows no pressure, its faulty, come and replace it", this circuit breaker keeps popping, its faulty, etc etc etc.

The clowns never think "Oh this items just done its job", now find out why and fix THAT!

Guess that's why I'm in a job....
 
I would say they have damaged it when taking it out, the early sender units are a bugger to get out as @warp9.9 said, speaking from experience on this one, I've since fitted the update kit one and it is much easier :thumbsup:

Ever wonder why fire alarms are SOOOOOO FRIGGEN LOUD in buildings. Its to make sure it hurts your ears so you want to get away from the noise before you become a burnt cookie! Yea, people are pretty stupid when it comes to stuff like that.
 
Not to switch subjects...
One of my clients had a lab shut down due to a low exhaust airflow alarm. A big deal when your dealing with acids and such.
Anyway, after a day and a half of the HVAC control company trying to figure out what was happening I was called into a meeting to give them a hand.
My first question was has anybody actually looked at the fans? Are they running or not. The control guy said his computer says they are running and there is no problems, but the airflow is low. I again asked if anybody walked out and check the fans. After a long silence the answer was no.

Turns out one fan which was running had a stuck isolation damper in the closed position. Took all of 3 minutes to fix. I fixed it by disconnecting the **** thing from its motor actuator (Which was dead) and manually opening it.
The client was...lets just say not too happy with their control contractor.

Alarms actually mean something! Get off your butt and go look.

Took the rocket to the shop to have the fuel filter replaced and now fuel light stays on, took it back , they took the tankl back off and messed with it some more, light still on, left it there, will see what they find but not too confident since last time they left the brake calipers loose and @warp9.9 had to Mcgiver it on the side of the road, any ideas of what they did wrong? they said they did not bend the fuel pick up at all.

Had the same thing happen on mine (2012) reading 1/2 full when toped up, light on with 1/2 tank left, took it back to the dealer and did my nut at them, They fixed it, as others have said, they bent the rod during install. On a side note with all the ****ed up during service I reckon it cost them more to rectify than what it cost me for the service............
