I'm not convinced any R3 pings, when maintained, in any weather.
There is a vibration at 2k rpms, present on stock bikes and I have the same feeling on Mufasa, and always have in every build and on every tune.
It's most certainly not pinging as I've run 105 octane and it's still present, that includes huge spans of ignition timing, from like -10 from stock to +8 or so.
What it is, is beyond me to say definitively, I suspect it's a 2nd order vibration being less than fully damped by the balance shaft, but I have no way to verify that.
Honestly, I don't think the engine feels happy below 2200 RPM, on any R3 I've ridden. Sure it runs, and pulls from idle right up, but right at 2200 they all seem to smooth out quite a bit, stinks of engineered in "character" to me and the easiest way to do that is the balance shaft.
