For all the engineers out there. . .

We get this even in my industry as Graphics Designers. Except in my case, the client will want a specific look of a piece of creative work, we'll produce it exactly as they describe, and then it goes on and on with "Lets change this to black, instead of green... and make this circle a square... now make this look like that" and then in the end, its nothing like the original quoted work and something much horrible and worse. UGH!

And... unfortunately there are plenty of people that speak this sort of drivel with the appropriate buzz words and no concern that they haven't a clue what they're on about nor a care that they're making an absolute plonker of themselves.

One of my employees likes to use "big" words when describing what he thinks are issues. When I ask specific questions and drill down to the real issue it is never and I mean never an issue. (Something I shouldn't have to waste my time with!)
He came from a large company and that is how they survive. Drives me crazy, and that means his days are numbered unless he gets with the program.

Sadly, this is very, very true. I have days when I can relate....especially when I'm on the phone with customers.

Do like the Aussies . . .
CHUCK A SICKIE! :p
I should have done that yesterday brother. Not the worst day ever but close. I am not the engineer in my group, I am the operator. The engineer let's us know that he is the smartest and goes to great length to explain the things we have done for 20-25 years. He mumbles under his breath this is why only engineers should be in this group. It's tough working with a boss who doesn't see the forest for all the trees....

@Boog
Having spent 22 years in civil service myself, believe me I KNOW the Peter Principle is alive and well!

engineers are educated past their intelligence, give some the benefit of doubt(at least the ones in the oilfield I found out )

I feel for 'ya.
One of my clients has an engineer who believes he is the smartest one in the room and can't deal with being wrong. I have been to a few meetings with this knucklehead when he has said some of the dumbest things...
I have pointed out on a few occasions that his "numbers" are wrong and it doesn't add up correctly. (We work with HVAC systems for Labs and airflow volume and pressures are king)
His response in more than one meeting has been: "I just design the system its up to you to make it work". WTF How do you "make something work that isn't designed to work in the first place? And yes, this goofball has been the cause of quite a few change orders.

The owner of the company who is someone I ride with will look at me and in a load voice for everybody to hear say something to the effect:
"Dan, let me know what won't work and tell me what we need to do to make it work" His "engineer" will just sit there with his stupid arrogant look on his face and say nothing.

Happens to me all the time.
