Final drive question

From the looks of your final drive splines I am surprised the shaft splines are still good.

Nossir that is a genuine Maddog. Got another one JUST like it. The shaft splines are toast also. I bought a brand new shaft on eat-me-bay for ten dollars that had never been used. It came from a place that builds trikes and the yoke had been removed. I put my yoke on it as the engine splines show no wear at all.

Just can't bring myself to buy new when I can used stuff so reasonable. It's the Scottish in me I guess. NOTE: I'm from the "cheap" clan not the "sheep" clan

Boy it sure looks like a Jardine oh well my bad.
I understand about the used parts. I bought a used drive shaft to go with my used final drive. Also bought a used output drive and complete transmission out of a 2011 touring along with the complete clutch which now supports a MTC basket on it for a spare.

Jardine wish they could make an exhaust as good as the Aussie Maddogs, nice to know where to go if I ever need a spare

I'm goin to be needing a new rear drive unit soon and was wanting to upgrade to the roadster set-up with the heavier spline.I was wondering, Does the Rocket Roadster rear drive unit fit the Classic or standard bikes? I know they both have different part no's but is that just because the drive shaft is different ? Same 240 rear tyre so can't see any reason it will not fit.

I myself am not sure if the newer drive-shaft is heavier as the only difference is the spline diameter is larger I had both but cannot remember if the splines where a wee bit smaller or not. I thought maybe when the touring came out they did it so no one would try running the wrong final drive. Then they decided to only need to carry one shaft to fit all. I think this is a possible reason for the original two different ones.
I am not sure if the Roadster ones are the same besides the color. It could be the only difference in the ABS is on the rotor? That being said they did make it so you can not run the fronts off a Roadster as the bolt enters from the opposite side as the earlier models.
I wonder if Andy from NCY can find the answer to this question ? I think I will send him a e-mail and ask.

Got the bike all back together today. All my parts fit ! I noticed something that I found kind of interesting. The splined end on the drive shaft is not straight, but somewhat barrel shaped. When inserted into the final drive it allows the drive shaft to orbit a bit if it needs to. Kinda like a u-joint with a very small travel. You can see it in this picture. That might help explain why the back spline goes to hell, and the front one stays looking like brand new.
