You have like....4 choices, pick your poison, none will get you much further than 7-10k unless you ride a square tire :/
And even then only if you ride upright most of the time.
My C/T (Goodyear F1 Symmetrical) has about 18,000kms (just over 11,00miles) on and is down to the TWI's on the edges.
Of the initial 11mm tread in the middle I have about 4.5mm left - so only 3mm before I have to change - Lets say another 2-3000kms. I'm looking at my options as I write.
Half a ton ridden weight (incl rider) plus hot grippy road surfaces plus massive torque plus hubris = tyre wear.
Sadly the best front ever has ceased production. Bugger. But from bul's list - I'll go for the W rated 140/75 Metz next. Should be a while though.
V rated Metz's will go blue and hard from overheating with EASE anywhere warm/hot. I have the badge (7000kms and during running in). The front Metz cupped badly. I know it's a pinch fit so it always will.
V rated front Cobra lasted LESS than OEM Metz - but wore very one sided - esp RH iirc - I blame sharp bends on off ramps after long hard constantly fast runs. 6300kms. I seldom ride in traffic and seldom ride slow. I tend to "cruise" at 3500-4000rpms.
For the remaining 5 of you with THUGS pipes - I think the E-Max rear will foul the tailpipe unless you modify. Be advised. I modified my pipes as the CT despite having clearance did actually brush the pipe in use.
Even so, the clearance is still only about 12mm and with the current tyre well worn. The maths taken from the dimensions of a fitted tyre and mine suggest 4mm clearance with an EMAX - and my pipe was pushed forwards by 10mm.
A C/T makes sense to me in a very defined set of circumstances.
I really don't care (that much) about cost. I do care about (in Spain) speed of getting replacements and longevity.
I have a neighbour with an R3 (odd, two in one small estate). He's been waiting 3 weeks for a Me880 rear. Yup THREE WEEKS. The temps sudden spiked rose here whilst I was in the UK and the rate of wear rose taking him unaware.
But I now have two sets of wheels so can consider returning to the light side. But will I? - ah therein lies the rub!
