Would like everyone's recommendations on engine oil viscosity and brand to use. Have an 05 rocket III with approx. 350 miles on complete build. Have always used Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w-40 and usually a Wix filter. I have read several articles about using heaver viscosity oils and different filters. Plan on changing oil and filter around 400 miles. Might use the Mobil again this time and change again before going to a tuner. Ride intermediately until spring. Would appreciate your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks in advance Gerald

I would take the recommendation of whoever designed the majority of your engine build bits

Castrol Power 1 10w 40 Fully Synthetic. I have always used this and it is The Triumph recommended oil. Triumph oil filter too although that is a Wix filter i think.

Triumph filters are bought from the Wix company in Poland. Mobil a long time ago was the recommended oil by triumph. Yes i run 10w40 mobil with a wix XP filter. Never had a problem. Transmission different story but not oil related. 68,000 miles on a 2015 Rocket X. Original owner. Stock engine other than cams, air intake and exhaust.

Serious though the bikes transmission likes 50 weight oil. I'm not pushing any brand on you. Amsoil 15w50 would be fine. Red Line 20W50, Motul 300V 15W50 is premium lubricity has not harsh cleaners in it so it won't seem to last as long. Make sure its for a wet clutch, I listed all synthetic oils no semi synthetic or conventional oils. I'm not sure if castrol oil makes a 50 weight but if they do it will be just fine.

The bikes oil flow throughout the engine was designed to run full synthetic 10W40. Warm climates maybe the 50W. Here in Oklahoma were the winters can be cold in the morning 10W40 is fine. The best way to find out if your running the right weight most of the time is to look at your ladder back as you take it off to do a valve adjustment. You have scratches and scraps your running a oil that is to thick to lubricate. Your running smooth guess what? The bike is a water cooled engine so using a oil that was designed for a air cooled engine makes about as much sense as running a square tube through a round hole. You want a good smooth running transmission.? Pull the motor and have Robinson fix the transmission.

The oil isn't "designed" for an air cooled motor it's simply a wet clutch compatible oil in 50w. My 06 is spec'ed for 50w so that's why it's in there. @warp9.9 recommended I run it and his word is plenty good enough for me any day.
