I am in the process of changing out my rear tire. Removed it myself so I could check grease on rear end splines. Glad I did! Splines on hub to banjo still had grease. But when I removed rear banjo to check driveshaft splines they were perfectly dry with lots of rusty dust. I cleaned with an old toothbrush and brake cleaner and lubed with Honda moly 60 grease. My Rocket has 24K miles. I would definitely check this anytime the rear tire is replaced.

From what I have read, the "rusty dust" is the natural state for moly that has lost the carrier medium (gel, paste, etc). Since moly is a dry lubricant, it is still doing its job. It just looks weird.

I need to pull my wheel and regrease as well.

btw, did you make your trip down to see Tripp?

I hope you're right about the "rusty dust", but it sure didn't look good. It's hard to believe the new moly grease I applied would break down to that, and still do it's job.
My visit with Powertripp went well, 10 more HP and 15 ft.lbs. more torque, plus a much smoother throttle.:D

40-41 MPG running 75 to 80 MPH. On the trip down, before he tuned it, it was actually more MPG but he said it was way lean so he richened it up.
