I have 500 miles on my new Rocket and this thing just noses over after 50% throttle. Its really making for an unpleasant first Triumph purchase. If i have to pay someone else to get the power out, why did i give Triumph my money? Doesn't matter what mode or traction control off, it is slow! Am i missing something?

That doesn't sound right, even stock tune. Out of warranty you'll want to install the "Penner Tune," which is free here compliments of @Penner and will GREATLY improve (unlock) the performance of the machine. But most riders new to the Rocket are pretty happy, at least at first, with the stock performance. Something must be off, as it's the early throttle that is mostly restricted. More info and maybe a video and someone here will help you figure it out.

Yes, the power that is there but restricted by the factory. The ECU has limitations in the throttle settings in all modes so you don't hurt yourself. You can gain about 30HP and a few more foot-pounds torque by removing those throttle limits (also raise the rev limiter). There's an excellent Youtube video on "unleashing the beast" to show you how to do that using TubeECU. It doesn't require fiddling the fuel maps, only setting the throttle openings to 100% for whatever mode you want to adjust (SPORT/TRACK is where I get full power). If you don't have TuneECU you'll need a OBDLink LX (or MX) and an android device (phone, tablet, or pad) to download the program and then pay for a license (about $28 US). One word of caution is do NOT reset adaptations unless you want to lose cruise control. If that happens run the switch check and you're good to go.
 
Thanks everybody for replying. It just seems very unusual that they advertise all this badass power, then you buy one and its turned so far down that it almost is a burden in traffic. Cant move fast enough to get around people. I could see turning it down for the first 1000 miles for warranty sake. But i am really disappointed at this point. Love the bike to death but really Triumph? I am really surprised Triumph wont sell you the program to turn it up. Kind of like buying cable t.v. and ooohhh you want watch a movie too. Pay up sucker.
 
TBH I think something is amiss with your bike, as straight out of the box they go really well. They don't fall on their face after 50% throttle, & I've never heard of them being described as "they barely move fast enough to get round people". Where are you situated? You may be close to other members so you could compare.

I am in Pasadena Tx. And to be fair i just traded a 2016 V-Rod Muscle. It was fast, loved the 9400 rpm but, only 80lbft of torque and 650lbs. But i had just sold a sportster i built into a 92 inch 12:1 motor. It made 115hp 103lbft of torque and only weighed 550. So maybe its just me. The Rocket leaves good and pulls ok till about 4500 then plans out as i twist the throttle. Obviously the throttle percentage is turned down.
 
Mine pulls harder than a schoolboy all the way to redline. Only having 500 miles on it you won't have seen the rev counter change to red yet. It's a settable thing for a shift light type of thing. At 4500 it's really starting to wake up, not fall flat - usually. Even at 200kph she's still accelerating hard - so I've heard Officer . . . .
 
If this is a 2025 Rocket Storm, it has plenty of power. Perhaps Triumph restricts the power during the break in period.
