Coolant Leak/Overflow?

I to have been led to beleive if it had green in it from new don't put red in it and vise versa.
Yeah that is what I was told but Zim said he was using the red in his, I am just curious as what the difference is between the two as the whole idea behind coolant originaly was to reduce corrosion in the cooling system but I have seen evidence that contradicts that with the green coolant. .... is the red coolant better against corrosion?
I would happily flush my cooling system of All the green coolant if the Red stuff is going to work better!!!!:)

Were the rads too small on E types?
YUP. Plus Spain is HOT and I had the additional load of a Auto transmission cooler. I had a bloody great extra electric fan in which was pretty much on all the time below 80 kph in summer. Can be helped with a separate oil rad and a Rob Beere Racing air scoop feeding it. Also one of those "snake oil" remedies dropped water temp in the E-Type by 5ºC - A Fuel Cat. Yup surprised me too.

A lot of corrosion comes at HOT spots. The water boils locally and lifts ali or steel. This boiling releases HOT REACTIVE OXYGEN. Also Hydrogen but this generally is what leaks out under pressure - leaving the Oxygen to react with what ever is left - like Aluminium or other metals.

Coolant degrades over time - a lot of the issues come simply from the Glycol separating out. masses of folk simply DO NOT CHANGE THE COOLANT. This gums up water pumps and small passage ways.

According to Triumph - 3.2 litres.

Had one experience with not using coolant. Put a new water pump in a truck I owned before the one I have now. Went to get green coolant concentrate out of the 200 litre drum in the workshop were I did the repair and there drum was empty. Not to worry I filled it with water and made a mental note to get some concentrate and put it in. Forgot all about it and about 2 weeks later checked the oil in the morning and the sump was full off water. Corosion had eat it's way around the o'ring in the bottom of one sleeve. 1 rebuild kit and a week off the road to fix. An expensive lesson.

Hey Zim what exactly is the difference between the green and the red coolant I was told not to change from what came in the bike mine had green coolant and I have been using the Dr Cool made by Nulon :)

I to have been led to beleive if it had green in it from new don't put red in it and vise versa.

I forget the differences, but I did check and the specs for red were equal to or exceeded what an R3 required.

Its ok to change as long as you get all the old stuff out.

EDIT some coolants are phosphate based and others are silcate based.
Toyota Red is hybrid coolant suitable for engines that require either type of coolant.

My landcruiser has had green in it for quite some time according the log books:D
