Hi, have just refitted and tried my longhaul seat after custom mods!! previous ride was a RoadKing with a aftermarket pillow seat , and being a super comfortable ride for pillion, I promised Wife a similar ride on the R3T (anything to get the beast in the garage) but after about a 1hr trip she got fidgety !!! tried heaps variables ie tyre pressures / shocks etc but no joy :confused:Took the Longhaul seat to Daryl at Classic Autotrim, and have replaced pillion hard density foam with a highgrade soft one, but left a outer ring of origonal foam to retain the shape, Wifee being about 64kg found origonal to hard, So Rider seat I thought give it a tweak while we had it stripped, even though after 2hr ride I felt ok, a litle stiff etc, my weight being 125kg, we went for a higher density foam (harder) with the mod similar to pillion, leaving outer ring to help retain shape, a bit like inserting a cushion. You cannot tell mods are done by looking at seat :)was a tad concerned I might stuff up visual look of the seat. Anyway the outcome !! just got back from a 5hr trip , 2.5hr eachway with a 1hr stop in between "NO PROBS" :D:D:D all around, how are you Guys & Gals getting on ? anybody having similar woes ???? Cheers Wayne.

same problem here !! my better half... spread ... needed a wider support and the pillion seat is ridiculously narrow since I have two saddlebags I sort of designed a wider basic support with closed cell foam and currently getting upholstered I will post asap the end result I also made a taller back rest for her back and the travel bag I take on long trip.
modification of back rest $15 seating support $$30 parts $ 90 labour travel bag from costco $39.
love to save $ whenever possible.

Yup , makes it so much better with "happy half" my mods came to $200 NZ dollars & money well spent ;)

Funny isn't it how similar weights still don't end up with similar results on seats.

I'm 130kgs and 2 metres Wayon, and even with similar mods to yours by a local seat specialist I couldn't get comfortable (aches after 30 minutes)....The gel seat was no better.

I ended up getting a Day-Long from the US. Not a cheap option (probably about $1100aud, landed), and not particularly pretty, but they sure got it right for me and the pillion. No issues after 6 straight hours, so I'm hoping it's the answer.

I wonder if leg length can affect pressure points....

I've modified every Triumph seat I've bought so far. None have provided the comfort that I really want. Like you, I had a custom guy re-upholster three seats for me locally. A bit pricey but worth it.

I guess I should have just bought the Corbin--or better yet, Russell Daylong--right off the bat!

I went a different route.
I checked out all the pileon pads at work,
found the one I thought would be most comfortable, and e-bayed it.
Put that seat on the OEM pileon mount and called it good.

You must not have the challenge I've encountered with SWMBO. It's the Golilocks syndrome where one is too soft, the other too hard. A 40-mile ride turns into an endurence test.

For example, while in Florida on a nice 140-mile RT, she got off at a gas stop and wouldn't get back on! That took an hour of pleading and costly promises to remedy.

You'll understand why I need a comfortable seat for me--but more importantly, for her.

Ay, ayay yay...

Having bought an off the shelf Mustang for my Road King (loved it), then a Meyers (pretty good), Corbin (rock hard), then a Russell Day Long (great) for my 1150RT, I've figured out that they just don't make good stock seats anymore. Or is it my advanced years? I had a 1974 750 Ducati Sport for 25 years, with a factory dual seat, that I would ride from Montreal to New York City without an issue. Bag on tank. Two up. It was like lying down all the way. Might be the maturity thing again. As I said in my new seat post today, I think I'm going to like the 'new' saddle. I've also found it to a lot less noisy when your passenger is comfortable.:D

Yup I tend to agree with your maturity !!! and dont make them like they use to theory . I tried to explain this to the noise on the back , how 20 odd years ago on various sports tourers ie gsx 1100 suzuki, gpz1100 kawasaki and a cb750 honda we travelled throughout NZ with none of these issues !!! suggested a good pounding cumming from the back would help things tighten up ??? tried but spent the money on mods in the end.
