Clutch question, please help.

2007 Rocket III Classic
Okay, I have a 2007 R3 Classic w/22,000 miles. Yesterday the clutch started slipping real bad! I had previously thought that it barely slipped a time or two, but it was so faint that I wasn't even sure if it did slip. Now I can't even give it a medium twist of throttle without it slipping. I've changed clutch plates in a few v-twins. How much trouble is this job on the Rocket? Do I just need the friction plates, or should I change the springs too? Is there a kit with everything included? What is the recommended brand? Thanks for your advice. Tim
 
CTM Racing in Florida sells good fibers. They also sell some tighter springs. I've read here that carpenter racing sells stiffer still. I glazed my steels being stupid. I sanded the glaze off the steels cleaned them and reused them. When you use Ctms you don't reuse the bottom round spring. I forget what it's called but it's round and concave. Hyabusa steels can also be used. I would just mic it before and after if you go that route.
 
Sorry for my ignorance, but I must ask for a little clarification with the lingo for Triumph. By "steels", you're referring to the steel plates, right? Also, what does "mic it" mean?
 
yes steels mean steels aka steel plates
mic means micrometer ** i guess he means to compare them.
 


I've done this twice myself and did not find it that difficult. It is time consuming because you have to drain and disconect the radiator which includes some hard to reach hose connections, but other than the radiator the actual cluth itself is really reasonable to service.

I have heard good things about MTC fibers. I myself installed a barnet clutch pack which incuded steels, fibers and springs. I find the springs are a little tight for my current setup causing a very small friction point but they work well.

Before I did mine I watched this handy youtube link that really gets into the detail. this is a good link to get a sense of what you are signing up for and help you with it. Really god video.
 
Just another question here also.
If a clutch presents a pulsating feel (engage/disengage rapidly) would that be pressure plate springs or oil. I ask oil as the oil type has been changed to a lesser quality blended oil.
If this happened in a car I would have just replaced the pressure plate.
