Charging System?

I think Triumph needs to wire in a delay timer on the headlights so they don't come on until the engine is started. The Stratoliners have this built in and it makes a lot of sense. Surely somebody makes a delay-on relay that we could just plug in between the factory headlight relay . . . .
The headlight relay harness from eastern beaver that bypasses the ignition switch can be ordered with a low beam cut off switch option. That's what I got so I can turn off the headlights just like you suggested when cold starting and whenever I want to be sneaky.

I thought the bike has a relay to cut power to the headlights when cranking the engine. I did a little looking on the FLOATING GROUND thing;A floating ground is a common connection in a circuit that provides a return path for current but is not connected to an earth ground. Floating grounds will create ground loops in the electrical system. Floating ground is created by various reasons such as improper use of electrical configuration, multiple grounding and some power quality equipment. From what I know no vechile has anything but a floating ground because they are on rubber tires.

yep. my boss and co-worker explained it to me yesterday after i made that post. the negative post on a battery isnt ground at all its just the return path. I should have known better. ah well i guess floating ground doesnt have anything to do with the charging system stability. I guess then i go back to my original point of the goldwing having 380w.

(EDIT: i stand corrected. I googled gl1800 charging capacity and came up with this GL1800 charging capacity - GL1800Riders )

I was wondering if I could charge up a second battery (something about half the size as a small car battery) mounted in my tourpak to power my cpap machine while camping.

Should not be an issue as far as the available current goes; you will need to isolate it however so that current can only flow INTO it and not back into your bike system
There are products available to accommodate that
