I'm thinking of changing my exhaust from Mad Dog to the Carpenter Racing Exhaust. Looking at the pics on their site, the pipes on the black bike are blue from the heat. Does anyone know if that was just a prototype or will all of their exhaust turn like the one in the picture? I know most exhaust has heat shields that cover the main pipe but I wasn't sure about theirs.

No matter what system you choose will need heat sheilds. They add a lot to the final cost of a system if they are not included. Fabricators have told me it requires making a second set of header pipes .. then splitting them. It can add hundreds to the cost.

exhausts

Buzz subtle here in Vic I just changed my exhaust . is mild steel then ceramic coated it (with simple spray can) then heat wrapped it . complete system was made locally. Depending on the finished appearance your after either chromed which as T.C. rightly mentioned will need heat sheilds or high proformance alone (and hopefully pleasing appearance). Mine were made by renowned clasic car and bike restorer Jimmy Sonic, just hade them modified to Tuner Neville Lushes requirements pre custom tuning with tripple air filters ETC ETC. By the way theres enough good quality hot rod and proformance car and bike exhaust crews around to get stuff made to suit, at a fraction of the cost mine was under a 1000 and could have had it in chrome for an extra 200. runs 54 mm I.D collector and mega cone I.D.

G'day Subtle one . Pics be great mate. My 3 into 1 system is proffesionally ceramic coated and wrapped in that Screaming Eagle tape that Harley shops sell... it still needs heat sheilds .. the heat coming off the headers was unbearable in crawling traffic or at lights ... guess if you lived rural and didn't have to fight through traffic it could be liveable..just.

Gday Subtle. Finally back in Vic and catching up on stuff. I'm heading down to Queenscliffe with my sons for a few days. Should be back early next week. Hopefully catch up then.
I'll get you to point me in the right direction for getting some heatsgields made for mine.

You decided against the carbon fibre heat sheilds hey ??

Ponters,
I spoke to Ric Paul at Reband yesterday and he advised that he will send me a set of carbon fibre heat shields next week ???. He was picking them up from the guy who was manufacturing them yesterday arvo.

My Carp Brute started out polished shiney stainless silver, but over time have turned a goldish colour, i dont mind it.looks cool. the more i run it the further along the pipe the gold colour moves.it hasnt got to the end yet. i havent thrashed it enuff, i supose.im not running heat shields but they are a must. gets fkin hot on my leg. When i see some sheilds i like, i will buy them.

Carpenter's exhaust is Stainless Steel which always turns gold-brown with heat. The original gleam can be brought back easily with a metal polish but they will brown up again. Take it or leave it.
