Car Tow Dolly--a cycle dolly????

Has anyone built or seen or ? someone make a cycle trailer out of one of these?

Seems not to big a deal to remake the car tow a cycle tow temporary if possible?

Pull behind the RV..........

I just bought an old one ,cheap repainted re-did fenders ,tires ,bearing grease..then thought why not a cycle carrier too? maybe a one main channel down the center..wing a pringle type of front stop?

what do ya think!!??

If your planing to mod it so it carries the whole bike it might work alright. But I don't think I would let the rear tire trail on the road. IMHO that would be too much stress on the head stock bearings. Maybe it would work for a few miles at low speed to get it to the shop for repair, as a last resort.

Don't under any circumstances, tow the Rocket with the rear wheel on thye ground and the front wheel fixed to a tow dolly or anything else. The driveline on the Rocket depends on the engine running to circulate oil to the transmission bearings. Towing the bike on a dolly with the rear wheel down will destroy the transmission bearings in very short order.

I would only build somthing that mounts the whole bike on the tow dolly....maybe a ramp down the center......ideas please!!!!



Funny you mention the reat wheel on the ground as I did towing with all 4 wheels on an automatic PT crusier......I turn the motor on the PT in N and for 1700 miles to Canada it got 600 miles per gallon...and no transmission problems..a fellow with a Lexus tryed this and blew the tranny!!!

I once had a motorcycer trailer made from the front axle of an old VW. Basically, you could use the dolly wheels with a rectangular steel tube for a spine and a length of extruded aluminum channel or steel channel for the motorcycle carrier terminating in a hitch ball coupler.

Wouldn't you want a trailer with suspension? Car dollies are ment to utilise a cars suspension when loaded, even if you can strap the bike down without compressing the suspension it is still going to bounce all over the place when hitting bumps. I had a friend total his bike with a home made trailer that had no suspension, it was an ugly sight.

I've seen a car dolly modified to carry a bike and, while it does the job, it can bounce around a lot because of the lack of suspension. The weight of a bike, even the Rocket, is not enough to keep the dolly from bouncing around back there.

I have owned a motorcycle trailer with no suspension for over thirty years. I've carried one to two bikes at a time over thousands of miles through the years. No problems....yet.

..............and you can get 'Torflex' axles in stubs or complete tubes. Torflex is a registyered trademark of Dexter Axle. I prefer rubber ride. Basically, it's 4 solid round rubber rods sandwiched between 2 rectangular steel tubes inside each other with a wheel spindle on the end. It's maintenance free and self dempening..

The VW axle bike trailer I had, had no suspension either. I just kept the tires soft for dampening. I never lost a bike or had it get squirrely.....

My 3 place I own now has suspension. I had it built to haul my sodecar outfit but it handles 3 individual bikes as well. It's a Load Rite.
