Cam Chain flogged

2007 plated Rockets run a DID cam chain with 85 side links. Been led to believe that later models have only 84. Just for future reference for those that clock up the miles. $110 US compared to $365 AUD goes goes to show how much we Aussies are getting shafted by Triumph Australia.

That's not just cheaper; that's the difference between a minor(ish) irritation and a complete pain in the arse!

I doubt you've just picked up on that either.
Sh!ts me the prices we are expected to pay. And they blame it on freight costs:(:(
I have got parts from other suppliers that are identical to the OEM item at half the price here in Oz, and OEM stuff from O.S. for half the price too.

The mechanic they (local dealer) have obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, so that's not very confidence inspiring. Told me over the phone that there is no such thing as a 2nd gear issue with the Rockets and the problem was the way I select gears:mad:. Gearbox is bullet proof, and he's got customers with 250HP bikes (wank wank).
Only problem they have ever had (according to him) was a faulty final drive bearing.
I understand that the factory don't want to publicly acknowledge it, but surely as head mechanic he would have had to have heard of the problem by now.

I've lost faith. I'm going to travel the extra 300Ks to Shepparton to get my work done from now on rather than let them touch my bike.
What can I say. Screw you before you screw me again. I'll spend my money with those that will look after me.

Let us pray that the shipping cost from the US to OZ is considerably less than $250!:p

No doubt that buying the part here and shipping it there will enable you to do a huge end around your authorized Triumph stealerships over there, Cat!;)

What kind of shop labor rates are they getting in your region?

be lucky if he pays more than $50 to $60 shipping our triumph parts here are about 2 1/2 to 3 times the price of getting it from the States:rolleyes:
I think the labor rate the shops charge is about the $70 mark from memory, I do my own work

Sounds as though it makes good sense for you fellas' to source some of your bits over here. It would be great if I could have my R3 serviced over there as our shop rates are in the $85-90/hour arena! I wouldn't mind sampling some of the local Strine beaches and their bikinied denizens while I waited, neither!;)

Some dealerships charge around the $90-100 per hour mark and ive found those dealerships tend to do a crap job also as they just want your money and dont give a **** if they do the job correctly.

Not yet mate , hoping to get size , pitch etc from one of the Owners, then i'll hit a local chain supply joint. Pretty sure genuine Triumph be the dearest way to buy the chain here or even in the States. $1640 quote to replace the chain, just trying to save a few dollars where i can

I rebuild the engine and gearbox on my Yamaha YZF600 for a total parts cost of around $750 AUD parts from USA (boats.net), while the local Teamoto dealer quoted $2000 + for parts alone, a nice mark up for them bastards!!!

Hey Tomcat, you could try Tommy at MMM motorcycles on Moss street, Slacks Creek, I know he sells good quality aftermarket parts.
