Was just wondering if it happened to be the ignition switch, Steve broke down today and had to bypass the ignition switch seems like it is a reoccurring problem. just curious?

The local dealer still has it and I should know something soon. Likely by Tuesday or Wednesday. If I had to guess, it's a short somewhere, maybe the ignition. I plan on doing the relay mod that Hellfire keeps mentioning.

Hope you get home safe and with a running bike, :)
Thanks, mano, I made it back on the 28th. The bike cranked right up upon unloading it at the dealer's! (Of course.) Doing well and riding my Beemer for now.

Dan, I sold my R3T a couple of months ago but I hit an old “favorites” button and stumbled on this thread. What a nightmare. Glad to hear you made it home safe.

Let me see if I have this right. An authorized Triumph dealer tried to charge you $700 for a repair despite the fact that your bike was within the warranty period. You left a $500 deposit pending Triumph’s approval for what was clearly a warranty issue. Triumph coincidentally approved the difference between your deposit and the total service charge. And to top it off, you were left stranded with the same problem just hours after being repaired. Yup, that sounds like Triumph. I’ve been to the rodeo with them and that’s exactly how they play.

After years of dealing with multiple issues on my standard Rocket, I learned that Triumph can make warranty claims a very difficult process for their dealers. I had two dealers actually refuse to service my Rocket while it was still under warranty. Neither dealer even offered to get a warranty approval from Triumph. They simply chose not to do the work because they knew Triumph wouldn’t cover their time.

BTW, California has a lemon law and despite what many attorneys will tell you, it covers motorcycles.

Well, that's good news, as I may have to pursue something if I don't have my R3T fixed and all $$ refunded soon.

Hey, what replaced that beautiful bike of yours? The new BMW 1600?

Well, "kind of" good news.:)

My local Triumph dealer is a really good guy. Mark, the owner, is truly Old School. Knows Triumphs inside and out and owns "a few" of them.

He took my bike out on Friday and it died on him. Took and hour to get it going. Bingo --same symptoms as I described.

He took it out again on Saturday and it died again, but would not restart even after a couple of hours. He called a wrecker, and when it arrived...the bike started up again. Same thing I experienced (except with me, it just didn't start up again). The wrecker then followed him back to the shop.

This was a good test, as the dealer now duplicated the problem I described.

He's fairly certain it's a heat-related issue, and more than likely the "crankshaft position sensor." Ever heard of something like that plaguing the R3T?

Anyhow, this is a warranty fix, happily. Because the warranty ends in 2 months, and I don't want to put any more $$$ into this bike if I can't ride it! It's cost me an awful lot of money in the past 3 weeks that I hope to recoup from Triumph if at all possible.:soapbox:

Anyhow, the dealer, Rocket Motorcycles in San Diego, is wrapping up the 30K mile service as they continue to locate and fix the problem. After that, we'll see...

And Triumph of Metuchen still won't take or return my calls!

Doom on you!

Yea, the new “K” bike is amazing. But it’s been in my garage for a week and it’s only seen about 100 miles (and most of those were after 9:00pm). Man, I gotta get out more often.

It’s good to hear the guys at Rocket Motorcycles are working hard to get your bike back on the road. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

Contact with Triumph USA?

Who among us has has successful communication with Triumph USA?

I've read some of the posts, but would like to speak with someone @ Triumph who can make a decision on a bad, bad Rocket.

Oh man! I just traded my low milage 07 Harley Street Glide and my low mileage 05 Honda ST1300 in on a new 011 R3 touring last weekend. I have 500 miles on it and just dumped all the fluids and the oil filter today. Will do it again at 1000 miles and then every 5000 after that.

This thread does not inspire confidence in the R3! I had read the bikes had some early on problems, but the owner at Doug Douglas Triumph in San Bernardino, CA told me they had all been addressed by Triumph. Man this don't sound good. I got mine to do long road trips on long lonely roads. This ain't good. I was initially worried about Triumph dealers and the lack of them. But everyone on the Triumph Rat forum said it's a good bike. This ain't good news!
