Yup...Three screws are a pain, but I would work on resolving your issue with the heated grips. It is probably for the best that it is a little difficult to remove your seat. I have been doing some research on some of the ignition switch failure complaints, especially on the roadster. I have looked at the circuit diagrams for the Rocket and developed a simple bypass for the switch should the need ever arise. Without the fork being locked and the seat being easily removed, I could bypass your ignition in the fuse box with three simple jumpers connections. I could have your bike up and running in less than a minute if I wanted to steal it. It's probably best the screws are a bit of a pain and the seat doesn't come off with little or no effort. I would probably agree with DRMD421...the seat sets pretty tight without the bolts and you could probably ride without them.

I just replaced the tires with Avon Cobras as my rear was down to the cords. During the test ride the throttle broke, assuming it was due to the heated grips, so I'm going to remove and replace them totally.

That'll solve the grips issue.

After that just need to replace my back brake pads and an oil change, so that's a message to Flip, some some work probably after New Year.

I had my heart set on installing heated grips, but there were just too many bad review and issues mentioned on the forum and elsewhere. Probably for the best you are taking them off. No sense introducing problems into your ride. A heated pair of gloves won't stop my bike ride. Did the throttle cable brake or the grip where the throttle attaches break? Lots of complaints about that.

I just bought a new 2013 touring, the dealer hadn't sold, towards the end of the riding season. I hope I don't have any issues myself, but the 6 year warranty I bought with it should cover anything major. By the end of the warranty I may be to old to ride anyway. Enjoy the ride.

Hey all,

Anyone have a way to convert the Triumph stock seat (I have the long-haul 2-up seat it came with), into one that doesn't require 3 bolts?

My other bike ('95 Trophy) just unlatches with the key. This is much easier to access the space underneath.

Given that the heated grips on the R3T seems to cause the aux fuse to blow regularly, I'm always getting under the seat. Undoing the three bolts is horribly time-consuming.

Is there a better way? Velcro? Duct-tape? Or, am I the only one that seems to need to be under the seat all the time, enough to find it irritating?

Thanks,

Alex

I am going to give this a go.. Did it to my Honda VTX...

TDon't be offended, but my boss I had in the military told me to "always ask the laziest person the best way to make something work". Lol He asked me allot. Lol
I am not lazy, I am just very ergonomic!

Great idea - any idea on the pin sizes?

If not, I'll measure the bolts in the next couple of days when I have to take off the seat next.

The pins would have been my suggestion as well. Just remember, once you drill out your threads, you can't go back. You may not need to go all the way to 3/8 ". I didn't check my bolts today, but you may be able to go no larger than 5/16" on the pin size. I don't believe my seat would move even if I left the bolts out on the sides. It rests pretty tight on the bike. I would however put the fender screw in.
