I have an 07 Std and have just blown another fork seal.....that makes 3 sets in 40,000 klm's.....WTF? It does'nt only occur on the same side, and the forks have been checked for damage. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi there.
Just a couple of ideas.

1. did any seal leak before you went to Tassie (April 2011)?
2. I noticed that you had your forks lowered. Are they lowered the same amount? One may bottom out before the other.

It may be some stupid questions/suggestions, but if everybody keeps bombarding you with suggestions, then one of them may be the right one.

Cheers :)

G'day Erik and thx for your suggestions. Yes the first leak occurred before Tassie and as far as I know both forks are lowered by the same distance, but I'll check again. Thx mate.

A blown seal?? He does look kind of satisfied, I thought.

Greg, if there are any stone chips on the tubes, they needed to be gently stoned (noooo, dont blow smoke on them) to remove the burrs that chop out a new seal.

You failed the test mate! I could've counted on the old blown seal joke.....still, it's great it was you! Seriously tho.....both sides of the forks are taking turns at blowing? Kinda puts paid to the stone chip thing although we have checked this. Honestly I don't understand whats going on at all? A bit of a mystery at the moment???

I will ask my fitter/machinist mate his opinion next time I talk to him.It is just a hydraulic tube at the end of the day really

Cant say I look of those. What about the ol fashioned fork gaitors and piss off the fork shield??

When one blows - do you change both? - just asking. If not the stress of running with one dead seal maybe to much for the other - weakening it. Very odd though. What sort of environment do you ride in? - dusty, sandy, wet, croc' infested. I wonder if something like a crud gaiter would help? http://www.proline-sports.co.uk/acatalog/fork_protection.htm
