Kinda freaky given it was Cobba's anniversary yesterday but.....
When I was in Tassie and hooked up with the local fellas down there Albatross told me something that saved my arse today and makes me wonder if it is possible that the same thing happened to Cobba.
I went for a ride this morning and with the week I've had, the weather being stunning, the traffic quiet and riding with my sports bike mates, let's just say that we were pushing on. There was a section of rode that was pretty new just before the slide out of Yarra Glen so there was a bit of loose stone about but if you stayed on the correct line all was ok. Problem was one of the guys in front of me powered out of a corner to hard and ended up drifting his rear tyre across the loose stone, flicking it up at me.
Naturally I breaked to give him space but my rear locked up. As i was virtually straight upright I was ok and I was doing less than 140k but a locked rear is not good. I instantly jabbed the rear brake as I cracked the throttle open HARD!! Exactly what happened to Duncan, happened to me.
This is what you need to know. !!!
What had happened is as I applied the rear braked a little stone flew up under the pedal so as I released my foot pressure it got jammed up and looked the rear wheel. Now if it wasn't for my Tassie brother telling me this is what happened to him and me thinking 'I wonder if this happened to Cobba.?' anyway because I remembered I jabbed the brake allowing the stone to fall free and by wide open throttling it i was able to keep the rear sliding as it was drifting out, then simply just eased the counter stear open and drifted out of it.
If I hadn't heard of this happening. I wouldn't have know what the **** was happening g and wounded high sided down the side of the mountain.
Be aware guys, if your rear locks up after you apply rear brake and doesn't release you've probably picked up some road stone.
Time to weld something to bottom of the peg rail to stop this happening again. Perhaps you should think about doing the same.
I'm lucky I wasn't leaning too far or going to fast to sort it out.
I do seem to have developed a strange twitch in the sphincter though!
