An earlier thread of mine was "What's in store?" in terms of expectable Rocket III changes or improvements for the imminent 2008 model year. Right?

Close your eyes for a second, will you?

The second is over.

Summer of 1951 in Meriden UK. Triumph's Chief Engineer and General Manager Edward Turner Esq. was asked by some minority and thus impatient shareholders what sort of post-war product developments he had in mind, if any. Meeting minutes have sunk into oblivion. But...

... In the Fall of 1951, under his tutelage, Triumph launched a nation-wide press campaign.

Let me QUOTE it here: "The patented Triumph crankshaft--unaltered in design from the first prototype in 1937: An immaculately finished piece of engineering.

Triumph: The Best Motorcycle in the World "

(BTW, said Speed Twin-derived masterpiece of a crankshaft was used and abused on the Bonneville even after the 1980 demise of the Meriden plant)

An ill-fated, bean counting-driven mixture of conservatism and complacency, "eulogized" (sic) as British post-war industrial leadership :D.

Hope this was not too boring to read. Jamie
