Are the later models not plagued by issues?

It seems that most of owner's complaints center around poor dealers. What part of the country will be buying from? Maybe someone could recommend a good dealer in your part of the country.

Well you finally got me to laugh

If you feel that you can handle the bike then come on, if the power intimidates you then there are other choices.

I am not intimidated by the power of the R3. I think that the V-max is a fun little toy. The only reason I'm not looking at the new 1700 is they are still making the **** thing too small for my 6'5" 220 Lb frame. Same thing with the Warrior, V-rod and almost every other "power cruiser" out there. My CBR600 is a wonderful little toy also and I would move on up to a CBR1000RR or GSXR if my knees were up to continued sport bike riding. I thought about a Tiger (I really like the 06 model) but I want to stretch out. So I need a touring cruiser. I'm not a big fan of the Rocket standard and classic styling, not a dis just not for me. The T-bird kind of leaves me cold, a bit like looking at a harley with a straight twin. I really am leaning toward the R3T because when the wife and I take the boy (5 YOA) and head out to go camping on both bikes I'm going to want to tow a trailer with the tent and sleeping bags and such and the extra torque will be nice for that particular mission. It hurts my sense of individuality to look at a bike with an engine that has bolt-on fins so it will LOOK air cooled (Royal star).
As for warranty and dealer support, I'd rather have a bike made by the people that built my gun, but until I can purchase a Smith and Wesson motorcycle, it will HAVE to be Triumph or Yamaha.
Oh and I'm not offended, except for the comment about being intimidated by the power.:roll:V-twins are the for the faint of heart.

Just a comment on your consideration of a Valkyrie Tourer. I had a Valk and liked it a lot except for the fact that it ran out of lean angle way too soon for me. If you like pushing it in the twisties, the Valk will limit you. My riding buddy used to call me "Sparky" because I was always dragging hard parts in the turns.

Hay Taz, mabey this would meet your specks.

Im very sorry I just could not resist..Your right to be concerned with what your buying.

now thats a big bike!
Taz, I think Pig9r is correct on the build date! I have a 2008 (standard), and I did need the upgrade installed! think my build date was 8/07, 2009 and on should be fine! anyway yeah I was irritated about it! but Triumph took care of it, and gave me an accessory part I had ordered, (was back ordered) at no charge! for my hassle! and it magically came in the same time my upgrade was installed!! I wanted a hot rod cruiser! and really if you think about it, there really is only 1, the Rocket! My last ride was a 2005 V Max, ran good, but handled terribly, was very uncomfortable, and had a range of about 100 miles! I was interested in the new Max, (rode one it runs very strong) and yamaha did a great job with the handling, and seat! but it still only carries 4 gallons! So it was ruled out! the Rocket is a unique motorcycle! very versatile!

Wow!

:roll:Thanks for the laugh busajack, That thing is AWESOME! Of course, I can't have it. I can't own a bike it takes two people to ride. You have to give those Russian gypsies some credit though huh?
And thanks for the tip fastfreight, I was only interested in the Valkyrie because of it's silky smooth power delivery. To tell the truth the positioning of the feet bothers me about that bike. My size 12s are pressed right up into the rear cylinders on a Valk and with my long legs to stretch out on one (with highway pags) I look like I'm ready for a very invasive exam. So I'm down to two choices now.

I've been misquoted again.

They're not plastic. Just fake. The one nice thing about those fins is that you can unbolt them easily, take them to your powder coater and make the engine LOOK like it was color matched to your bike for less than $200. I've seen some pretty nice Royal Stars. What got me looking at them was the fact that they can blow any harley tourer off the pavement without breaking a sweat. The same can be said for the Rocket tour. No the Yamaha is still in the running. Price does have a little to do with the decision also. I need to be able to replace the wifes 250 scooter with a bike capable of keeping up to speed limit on the highway.

...Facts are very few bikes have ever developed a serious problem buy the bike that you like today because by 2025 your riding season may only be two months long.
You just had to go and fall for it. (

Gee....another Al Gore:eek:

+10 on Scot's recommendation.
didn't you mean #10 or perhaps #2.

Triumph's aren't the only motorcycles that have teething problems, they all do. How'd you like to be riding a GS beemer and have the Para lever (rear drive casting) break in two.... Happens. Or ride a HD and have the camshaft bearings come apart and destroy the engine... Happens. Or have your Kawasaki turn into a 2 wheeled toaster because some flunkie routed the harness wrong and it rubbed through on the frame and shorted out..... Happens.

A motorcycle is a complicated machine, made up of many sub assemblies both electrical and mechanical and machines fail, from both wear and human error. To err is human and humans design and assemble these machines.

Just buy what you want. Most never need any warranty related service but when they do, Triumph has been stepping to the plate and handling the problems in warranty or not.

I believe you are on the very best incline, towards the R3T. When you ride it like you stole it you pay for it. There is a reason there are so many very old tractors:kk:They don't run at scalded ape speeds their entire life.

Your cruising along at 80 and encounter an escape and evasion episode. With the flip of the wrist, the FBG is gone...and you are out of the way in less than a heart beat. That's priceless. I find there is a half heart beat before the afterburner kicks in:bch: The brakes on the other hand are phenomenal. But, the rate at which you got to 80 to start with is the cause for the never ceasing grin.:D I just can't imagine what the experience is like with these super charged and turbo equipped Rockets. It must be an organic experience.
