Take a look at the Yoshie that @Claviger just put on.
I ran a single can for awhile before the CES. It worked well until I wiped it off on a curve in Colorado.
You ride a large engine so get one sufficient enough in size.
This may sound strange, but for something that works and is on the cheap, look up cherry bomb exhaust.

It not necessarily about the money overall as it is about not wanting to throw away money now when I plan to make an order with Paul in the next 6-8 months.

If the K&N filters weren't on the way I wouldn't much worry about anything. Just a more air in, more air out thing.
And maybe I leave the stock exhaust on and not worry about it.

Then again, it's only $130ish for the two shorties. If annoying as all get out, no real loss

You WILL like the performance difference the K&N with exhaust make!
I changed mine out at 500 miles and thanks to copious help from @HansO, with the Tune ECU and PCV +AT tunes, I was amazed at the improvement!

Bull what were the gains you made in HP and TQ from having Nels dyno tune your bike ?

Do you have before and after dyno graphs you can post ?

I gained power going to a shortie on the Dyno, midrange mostly, usually they end up in a loss below peak torque and gain above it for most vehicles. The tone depends on which shorty your talking, some sound like hell and are crazy loud some aren't.

The R3 is so choked off stock though, anything will be a gain be the stock cans.

Should have the new setup back from ceramic coating on Friday, I'll drop a pic here. I should qualify that a Yosh R 55 is more of a mid-length can compared to some of the super short setups on the market these days.

I saw the Yosh system @Claviger mated up to his header. It is going to look fantastic.

So the shorties I linked to earlier are 19" long. Measuring from the crossover connection point, the muffler will end right at the point where the rear brake line banjo bolt mates to the caliper. That's technically about 4" longer than I want to end up. I'd like my exhaust to stop 1/4" before the rear axle to be out of the way.

I reckon those will sound pretty good, low pitch. Volume will depend on the packing internally, but, I would expect it'll sound pretty good.
