another exhaust mod

Dennis,

Stop reading, start building. You need to have a new set installed for that trip to Vegas in the Spring. Otherwise, I'm going to make you follow me all the way. I imagine these Jardines will wear on you after a few hours...

I'm working on it,,,,,,. Be careful Harry,,,,I might have to ride my wifes' stock 05 88" Road King on our trip and really leave ya in the dust! :D

Yeah, ya know its like they say, its not the arrow, its the Indian. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if your wife could leave me as well. This old Indian isn't nearly as fast as he'd like to think he was once was.

You will really like the PCV with the A/T! At least I do. My big thing with the exhaust manifold is if I'm going to spend the time and money building or buying a header, I want it to give me more HP and torque. If I'm only doing it for the looks, the stock "Log" manifold will work fine. I look at the "Bang for the buck" factor when I do a mod.

On my 2005 Honda ST1300, all the guys on the forums were spending $700.00 plus for Stayintune mufflers. Now they look nice, I'll give ya that, but they only add 3 RWH!!!! Three HP for $700.00! Not much bang for the buck!!!
THe Staintunes gave quite a boost in the HP and Torque "They Claim 22hp and similar torque improvement with Triple K&N's and a suitable Tune" on the three muffler system and I would believe it Sam's Header gave a further kick up the arse definately worth the money spent

Hans, what would you estimate to be the total cost of your exhaust setup, i.e., the Staintune, Sam's header, your cat delete apparatus and the PCV?

Well, whatever it is, you obviously have gotten way more out of it in satisfaction than what you have into it in $$$$.

I was fortunate enought to pick up the Staintune system $500 second hand (new would be $2,400) it cost me $1,200 for headers and $445 for the the new pumping the whole system is Stainless Steel, It retains the look I wanted and in My opinion will give me the best performance I am likely to find out of a 3 into 1 into 3 system, yes I know you can get far superior performance out a 3 into 1 but I am not and never will be interested in that type of system:cool: the other thing apart from the beutifull sound the StainTunes give is that the baffles are stainless steel and like the rest will not burn out

I was also lucky
Some muppet round the corner sold me his set for $300 in mint condition . Great system if you want to maintain that factory 3 silencer look which is also what I wanted. I would imagine there are plenty of systems that would be far superior for performance but none hade the look I was after for my machine. I reckon if I had a second rocket I would go for the fully blacked out theme and a set of three into one ceramic coated black.

This is a good example of a 'good muffler design, vs a bad one.' Honda did a very good job of designing the mufflers for the ST. It's a five liter per can muffler that flows quite well. But, is very quiet. On the other hand, Triumph did a poor job of designing the mufflers for the R3. This is why the Stayintunes do well on the Rocket vs the stock mufflers.

Now I must admit a lot of ST riders went for the sound they got from the Stayintunes vs the stock mufflers. I for one liked the quiet ST exhaust. On my R3 I like a bit more rumble.

Funny but I own a St1100 Honda and was never tempted to change the mufflers on her, same reasons I forgot to add the latest lillte mod has actually made it a freer flowing again then it was it seems to have better pickup up inthe higher revs not major change but enought to make the exercise worthwhile:)

I miss my 05 ST1300 big time! Most likely the best bike I will have ever owned. I just could not get comfortable on it. Even with the Sargent seat and the bar risers from Heli.

funny you say that I loved my ST1100 and thought about trading up to the 1300 when it came out but after testing it I did not feel as comfortable on it, While I have your attention do you know if you were to put the Zero map in PCV will it then read the TuneECU map in the bike to get it's AFR's or is as I assumed originally that it is merely a blank canvas for a dyno operator
