Another Custom Exhaust system

The thing is if you fit high compression pistons there is no 'chirping' at all. Found this out riding Ponters bike and he has the large exposed K&N's. I rang Neville Lush and he confirmed it's the high comp pistons that stop the 'chirping' noise...........

Not that I would argue with Nev, ever - but is he sure it was the pistons and not the large K&N's that stopped the crickets.

Ponters filters are not only larger they're a different type, 'aint they?

Are you saying the Ramair is quieter???
On my beastie - YUP.

Still chirps a bit if I deliberately TRY to make it chirp - around 2800rpm under very light acceleration. But none of that harsh slapping at all. I want to bed the PCV tune it a bit more though as it's reduced over the initial test runs. Maybe I can lose it totally - but I'm not going to try and spin the rear wheel in the rain.

For some odd reason the exhaust sounds more raucous now too.

But let me sum it up.

The K&N's came off because I couldn't stand the noise.
The Ramair will be staying on.

Perhaps mate .. know he did say the pistons played a part. Not 100% sure which filters Ponters runs. My mate Donny has a 'hot cam' in his RIII with the stock pistons and exposed large K&N's .. the chirping on his is just about unbearable. I asked Nev why one bike was noisy and one not.

like the look , did you have them length tuned are you going to make more

G'day Trev :) always a good idea when joining a Forum to introduce yourself .. maybe tell the other blokes a bit about yourself , bikes you've had .. that sort of stuff ;)

A Cure  not for AIDS , male pattern baldness or even the common cold !!!

Way more important to mankind than that

Ozrider in his wisdom has discovered a cure for 'induction chirping ' .. hoo-f#ckin-ray

Bolted Les's prototype bear-claw onto my bike today and rode home .. not a chirp. Still have the K&N's on but with Les's claw the problem is solved.

Apologies Mr K&N for all my harsh words .. bad, bad bearclaw it seems .. i'm stoked !!!
