An observation on oil

I am just a whore when it comes to oil, I have tried suzuki oil, amsol, valvoline, mobil1 and even wallyworlds own motorcycle brand oil.
All worked okay but i know Fred and he knows me and I trust his call so my whoring days are over Mobil14T from now on.

I used Mobil 1 4T (10W-40) on my Roadster and noticed no grinding sensations when shifting, only silky smooth. On my America, I used to use both Mobil 1 and Amsoil motorcycle specific oils. My experience was better with Mobil. The transmission was smoother and neutral was easier to find. I found that with Amsoil, neutral was almost impossible to snag and the transmission felt "sticky".

Mobil 4T for me!

Ah..the incessant oil thread and debate! How can anyone argue with Mobil 1 after decades of experience with it . I've used it exclusively in my last 20 bikes.
THE best chit out there! Use the MX-4t for wet clutches.

I used to run Castrol GTX in my Camero and Mach 1 back in the day. I remenber when it first came out in Plastic bottles 1985... The rule of thumb back then was change your oil every 2000 miles and at 99 cents a quart life was good. .. They had a pretty good add campain going back then too.

My bike has had either Mobile 1 or Amsoil since I got it, 30,000 miles ago. Last oil change I took it to the dealer for the first time, they put in Castrol and I noticed that it does shift as smooth as with Mobile 1. In my experience Mine shift smoothest with Amsoil but also shifts very good with Mobile 1.

So far I have used Mobil 1, Amsoil. Motul, and Rotella 5w-40 in my 05 Rocket, the bike seems to like the Rotella the best. I am not going to argue with it. I will keep feeding it Rotella until it wants something else. We don't own Rockets, they own us.

M Most oils will do the job and most of us have our favourites , how we come to the choice is varied , mine is Maxima Extra 4 100% Ester based full synthetic 10w 50 , it is not cheap $20 Australian a litre ,but I find it does the job extremely well and has done so in several of my bikes ,

Ahhh, the good old days, when oil came in cans, unless you wanted the recycled stuff that was in 1 qt glass bottles for 15 cents a quart. Yes, I'm an old fart!

I can remember when I first started working in a truck terminal as a kid the mechanics would drop all the oils engine/ gearboxes/brake fluid and diffs into 44 gallon drums when servicing the trucks, and the local young blokes with old cars, Holdens mostly that were using heaps of oil (a common trait for the old grey motors) would come and get the stuff for free and pour it into the engine there and then pull out a couple of 4 gallon drums fill them up and leave in a cloud of smoke, one young bloke I remember saying he carried a few spare cleaned spark plugs as the plugs oiled up every 50 or so miles ,no EPA in those days.

Years ago, I worked on industrial air compressors, and went from job to job repairing, and servicing on site.
When tearing down a compressor for repair; the compressors that had regular oil in them had all varnish build up inside from oil breakdown and heat while the compressors with synthetic oil were like new inside...From that point on made me a believer in synthetic oil. I use it in all my vehicles...I use Mobil 1
