America question

Never having had one I figured I would ask you guys. My daughter rides a 2015 America (1300 miles) and had an issue recently. The bike sat outside overnight at a recent rally and got rained on and then had starting issues. She got it fired up eventually, but was a little unnerving since she was there with friends who had already headed home. Any thoughts? Something I need to fix? Maybe a connection that needs some dialectric grease?

One other small issue..bike doesn't want to start on an incline facing either uphill or down

I think that they have a "tip" sensor to shut the engine off if the bike falls over. It may be faulty or need adjustment, or contacts cleaned.

I had a problem with my Bonneville once when it was raining heavily. The engine would stop unless I rode with the fuel cap slightly loose. The water sealed the tank breather, and the resulting vacuum in the tank prevented fuel from getting to the carbs. If hers is one of the fuel-injected models then this would probably be less likely to cause a problem.

I read something on the SpeedMaster forum on FB awhile back about somebody's bike that wouldn't start after getting wet, unfortunately I don't remember the details except that dielectric grease was used to resolve the issue. If you don't find your answer here maybe you can post the question there as well

Hello Morris, I had the issue with my left grip getting wet from rain and eventually having it replaced. Triumph North America took it for a look and found that several other grips needed better seals. (I'm not sure if they will fix this as most bike are at risk of wet electrical parts if left out). One tempory fix the mechanic offered was to carry a can of air to blow the water out of the grip crevises before starting. I do not know if WD-40 would work in this case since it leaves that oily residue but maybe...

Yeah...my first thought too, but apparently they were all suited up and ready to leave when she discovered she forgot something in the house so she told them to take off and she would catch up...lesson learned

Had this happen with a speed triple, got rained on heavily and some water found its way into the fuel. Exactly the symptoms described here which were resolved by a thorough fuel tank drain, clean and a little methylated spirits added to the first tankful of gas.
