Some think the open weatherstrip is to allow water a way out, to drain. That's not happening if you look how it is made. The gap in weatherstrip is above all of the open drain holes in the bottom of the plastic cowl. So water drains out far below the weatherstrip junction at the bottom of the cowl.Hmmm, why is there a gap there in the first place? It lets water & muck in, so I added an extra bit to keep the crud out. Still got the OE GT screen. Anyone know why the gap is there? My Air temp sensor seems to read ok, albeit perhaps a little optimistically, ie a bit higher than what you would have thought & higher than the official air temps.
I think it is a production flaw were the weatherstrip is too small and doesn't meet. As different bikes have different gaps. I ordered some from amazon and refit with the seam meeting at the top. No more gap means no rain, bugs, and sand. So it stays clean and dry as an electrical junction box should be. YMMV
