Ambient Temperature Indication Inaccurate

Yeah, its a kind of OCD thing. I always liked having them on my bikes.
I'm with you on that. I need to know what time it is and how hot or cold it is. That way I know exactly when to start bit***** that it's too hot or cold. I will bit** hard and my wife says I'm good at it so there's that.:)

It's always best to go with your strengths.............

Can anyone describe in detail where the temp sensor is and what it looks like (or better yet post a photo)? Mine has started misbehaving and most of the time the display simply doesn't show a temperature. Sometimes it jumps around rapidly with wildly varying numbers well below freezing (even when it's quite warm out). That causes the display to flicker rapidly the icy roads waring when the temp jumps back and forth across freezing. Every once in a while the temp seems to be stable and accurate also. I must have a loose connection or a short somewhere but I need to figure out where the sensor is to trace the harness. The sensor used to be very reliable and accurate (for years). Appreciate any help.

most temp sending units when unplugged/broken wire goes to a minus 40 degrees there i would think that more that likely there will be a break in the wire or loose connector.
a wiggle test might be of help
on the first gen bikes they were real close to the thermostat and i would that the newer ones are close to thermostat.
a wiggle test near there might be good.
if a sensor goes bad it is unlikely to that it would read again.
hth

just noticed that the heading said ambient temperature

The temperature sensor is under the front cowl. You might look to see if it has a big dragonfly or something on it. Do you notice if it goes down when on the open road and higher in slow traffic? I changed the airflow on mine by turning the weatherstrip around eliminating the gap on the bottom.
Hmmm, why is there a gap there in the first place? It lets water & muck in, so I added an extra bit to keep the crud out. Still got the OE GT screen. Anyone know why the gap is there? My Air temp sensor seems to read ok, albeit perhaps a little optimistically, ie a bit higher than what you would have thought & higher than the official air temps.

If you're referring to the ambient air temperature sensor, which is the source of the temperature shown on the display, it's under the flyscreen box, attached to a hose.
