I've been reading up,
I know that the 440's are "better", but quantify? are they $400 better than stock? are they $200 better then the 412's?

I weigh 230 dry and will be carrying a passenger , I was thinking I could get away with the 412's in the HD version at half the price, but don't want to be disapointed either

I was also thinking of gettign the 13 vs the 12.5 inch for better handling.

OH and I'm definitly swapping out my fork springs, my front is mushy and bottems out easily, makes handling squishy in the corners
let me know what your thoughts are.

I sent you a PM about the rears, I have no experience with the 412's, my understanding is that they are basically just an upgraded stock shock. FWIW, I only know of one person that has upgraded the front springs. They are very good stock. if you're front end is mushy, you may not have enough oil in them, I would check that first.

I have the 412s 11.5". I like them, big improvement over stock. Cannot speak for the 440s, if you go with the 412s try hondadirect.com thats where I bought mine. $199.00 and free shipping.

well I'll check the oil leval this weekend, I know that they just seem soft in the front,
the rears are teh oppisite and feel harsh, of course I had to crank them up a bit but tried several settigns and none feel right on the rear, wish I had some preload adjustment on the fronts!!!

I too changed to the 13" 440's and couldn't be happier. The difference is quite amazing compared to the stockers. I also ride sportbikes so maybe my butt is a little more sensitive to the suspension changes...but you'll definitely be grinning once you are leaned over among some bumps in the road. That unsettled feeling of the rear hopping around is totally gone. Love the little bit of added room with the 13" shocks as well.

Enjoy!

I have progressive shocks on mine but not sure which model.

How can I tell which model I have? (besides bugging walter, the previous owner)

I've looked them over and don't see a model number, just the make.

My 412s are excellent

I'm 170lbs and have them on the first and softest setting. I have the 12" (half inch shorter than stock - don't really notice much difference in height) and couldn't be happier

Look at the picture above, there is a "nub" that sticks out and a graduated step base. Those are the 412's, the 440's have an "infinite" adjustment at the top, the top ring screws down to provide more preload. there is no graduated step at the bottom
