Well, I've been breaking in my new Rocket; this is the third tank of gas I've gone through. I'm getting 34mpg at the moment. Does this sound about right for break in? So far I've amassed 400 miles on the odometer.

Kindest regards,

-Will

from what i remember when i had mine that would be close but of coarse my normal riding speed when im by myself is 80-90 mph

What kind of mileage can I look forward to once it's broken in; after a couple thousand miles? I know it all matters with how much you "twist the wrist" and riding style....

...but what's the average mpg of these Rockets?

Kindest regards,

-Will

When mine was stock and good and broke in I was getting about 39 MPG. I have Jardines and a Power Commander now and am getting about 35 MPG, but the sound and power are worth it!..

2300cc bike and asking about MPG???????????????????
Probably just me but I have never counted the MPG on any vehicle that I have ever owned
Rough guess would be not to much with triple k&ns, cat bypass, maddogs blah blah blah.

I get around forty with mine on average but work is only 8 miles away .

Playing with ****** rockets around 33mph and riding with harleys around 44mph.

Very good.

Btw, I didn't buy my Rocket for the economy of better gas mileage; I bought it to play, I am just curious as to what real world mpg the rest of you are getting.

I have no problem fueling this beast; if she's thirsty she will drink and I won't bat an eye about it.

Kindest Regards,

Around town and ramping it up somewhat during that type of riding I would get anywhere from 28 to about 36. When I was on the highway (going to Nashville in '07 was the last time I really checked it) I was getting 38.5 mpg but that was doing between 80 and 95 in a lot of stretches (right Scot in Exile and HeR3tic?) and in the rain.

Touring MPG

I wouldn't obsess about MPG until at least after 1000mi. It should come up a little as your engine breaks in.

I've got about 10,000mi on my Rocket. If I'm having fun with the throttle, I've gotten mid 30's on the low range and up to mid 40's when I'm cruising @65-70. I peaked once at 55MPG at high altitude with cool temps.

However I do have the Touring model which is tweaked more for torque than HP. I'm not sure how much that affects the MPG. Aside from the TOR pipes, everything is stock.

Everyone's got their own idea of how to break in an engine. I ran mine fairly hard. You just don't want to lug it down or max out RPM until 600-1000mi. I used wide open throttle from time to time but only in the middle of the RPM power band. I also used a significant amount of engine breaking. I believe this helps seat the rings well.

At any rate, definitely do not "baby" it, or the rings may never seat properly.

I haven't had mine dyno'd, but it seems to have broken in very well with this method. It doesn't burn/leak any oil and the power increased as the engine broke in. I could tell that the rings were seating well, as the engine breaking became more and more efficient.
