2005 vs 2015 Rocket iii

So, apart from cosmetic differences, is there really many differences between the original 2005 Rocket and the current 2015 Roadster?

That is a good question. I have a 2013 R3T, so it's tough to speak towards the roadster. From what I have been able to gather from the forum, there have been changes to the transmission and "maybe" the electrical system. There could be ECU program changes, cosmetic, tire and suspension changes as well, but as far as the engine, I suspect that is the same. The problem is...I have found is there are some differences from the electrical shown on a PDF posted here and my bike. The PDF is dated 2007 as I recall. The only way I can discover what the changes have been made is to order the latest manual for $106 dollars. I don't think anyone can accurately answer your question without service manuals and service bulletins from Triumph. From my perspective, everything is conjecture and speculation based on what someone has heard. Good luck getting a definitive answer based on "Fact"! Please keep in mind I mean this all is a kind way.

Lots of minor tweaks like shocks and ecu . Standard shocks suck regardless of year they just suck a little less on roadsters and we all change those bits anyway

Fundamentally the bikes are the same. 2300cc, shaft drive, 5 speed, 2 headlights. Virtually all the bits look the same, guards are the same, bear claw the same shape, intake run the same. Changes to riding position are more than cosmetic but still don't represent a major change to the bike overall. Addition of ABS, gear indicator, fuel GUAGE are really just enhancements.

It is, nevertheless important to know what bike someone has IF THEY WANT HELP ON THIS SITE. Even things like the gear position sensors have changed over time but also there have important upgrades to the gear box, and sump plug layout has changed since the early models. Knowing the year of a bike can impact on the advice someone is given because, contrary to the comment above, plenty of members actually know the differences. ECUs aren't necessarily interchangeable either.

And by the way, there have been no changes to OEM tyres fitted to Standard/Classic/Roadster models over the years.

Yeah thats it Richard . I know the ecu changed on the roadster and then seems to have changed again along the way for example the 2010 roadster ecu takes different maps to a 2009 standard and i think i remember reading the ecu was locked on later model roadsters 2013 or 14 cant remember exactly which one or if that has been confirmed or not

It has been stated on the forums many times as confirmed the ECU is not locked on any Rocket through 2014. I don't know about 2015.

I would say you hit the nail straight on the head Richard in fact I think the only thing you left out was the fact that Triumph lost their taste in colors and faded into black and black primer. Oh and just so you can say yours is different they will ad a stripe to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
