05 Rocket iii Rat
Looking at buying a 2005 rocket with bout 58000 ks. The bike overall looks clean but wont know until test ride.

Is this to many ks (I have heard that the engine are pretty bulletproof)
What other things should I look out for?

Cheers

Smooth transmission mainly. There was a recall on the final drive rear eeal so you might want to look into whether that was done.

Thanks Dougl. Yeah the price is right and I'm bikeless at the moment having just sold my storm.
One other question. Over here in Oz the 2005 came out with 240 rear and a 180 rear, can you convert
The 180 to a 240?

Don't know but doubt it. I don't see how it could have the same sized swing arm. Anyway I bet the 180 handles better.

check to see if the outputshaft bearings were updated mine was a 2006 and the bearings ( both) desintegrated I found bits in the oil sump afterward..
if not updated you might still find a triumph update kit which included those bearings, however the labor for replacement is what kills the deal most of the time .
many early R3 had the problem of outputshaft bearings going bad ....good luck on yours

Gearbox update kit to prevent jumping out of second gear. I have a 2006 model and mine failed. I did have a lot of other goodies done when the motor was out though so all went well. 240 rear tyre is for the standard and 180 is the tourer. Good luck with your potential purchase. I still love mine after many years.

The Tourer was a 2007 variant of the Classic with extras being windscreen, leather pannier saddlebags, luggage rack with backrest, and two tone colour schemes but still had the 240 rear tyre.

The Touring did not come out until 2008 in Oz so your 2005 Rocket should be 240 rear width only I believe. The 180 on the Touring is because of the narrower frame so that the hard panniers did not stick out too far I have read
