2 tire options, which one

I have been using the Bridgestone Excedra on my R3 Roadster with no problems and only a few kms short of the Avons. I dont believe the extra $$ justify the few extra kms with the Avon. I will change to the Excedra when the GT is due for new tyres

I get it and it's always good to save a dollar. I had Bridgestone's on my 14 Rocket before the Avon's and I thought they were 'so so'. Not great but okay. The Avons were about the same in touring but night and day on the twisties for me anyway. Everyone rides differently and for me I like the Cobra Chromes and yes it kills me to spend that much money on a rear tire. I can afford it but it's the friggin principal. Since I don't have the skills nor the equipment to place the tires on myself the local Triumph dealer makes sure I get bent over once again but at least they smile while they do it. Cheers.

There's no "wrong" choice as such. Just differences in priorities and trade-offs. Longevity is more important to some folks - the extreme of which leads to the dark side.

Stickiness is more important to me. Which also unfortunately requires that to some extent stickiness be more important to me than cost . So long as they become available again, I intend to stick with the Avons. Thankfully should be a while before I need a new rear, so hopefully by then issues with availability will have resolved.

Agreed and same here. Stickiness in curves and rain are my top priority. ...and fortunately, I too don't need a tire replacement for a bit...

Juat got a rocket 3 with avons. I noticed the back tire loses grip in the corners. Happened 3 times on Palomar mountain today. Are there any tires with good grip for these bikes? Grip is more important than longevity, though I like both. Its the reason i liked the metzler 880 on my last bike , and couldn't use the 888...too much slipping in the corners

There are more recent threads on tires, but I'd suggest the Exedra Max on the rear. Better than Avons or Metzler and happen to be less expensive.

It sits a little taller, reducing the rake which improves handling. No one who has gone to the Exedra here has complained. Do a search for more information.

Welcome aboard.

I'm surprised the pegs let you lean enough to "break loose" but just as I'm typing this, I guess it's a matter of description. I called it "squirmy" haha. I got it all the time, but just thought it was fun. Gave me a giggle. I never had a oh s..t moment that was scary though. Haven't noticed it with the exedra. But it's colder now, and I haven't really been hanging it out to much. No peg scraping or "squirming" just about 600 miles on the exedra

Found these marks on both sides of the tire, in a few places. I guess I found my problem...the marks run off into the side wall. So I guess there is less traction at the edge, and I probably felt it let go when it went over into the sidewall. New bike to me, so I wasnt pushing too hard, no pegs, just dragging my heels occasionally. The guy I bought it from thinks these are the original tires. Does the exedra, or another tire have more tread going over to the side?
