Paul- I’ll add to that friendly advice. A few years back at an intersection I waited for traffic coming from my right that passed by me to turn into my opposite lane. As a truck made a left turn it proceeded to cut in tighter and tighter. At first I thought, “you’re being a prick,” followed by “you’re going to hit my mirror,” followed by “I’m going to lose my leg if I don’t jump off the bike.” I did and watched several heads turn in the truck as it sped away. I snatched that R1200RT up and went looking. After going down every side street for several miles I found the truck and called the cops- they didn’t seem too concerned. Moral of the story is that I learned that you don’t only have to worry about rear enders when stopped, but a head on too. Next time (?) I will be ready and throttle over before its too late. In any event, had the bike been leaning over left on its side stand it would have been totaled (I dropped it over on the right to avoid getting hit) and I would have had a hard time getting myself off quickly on the right side. Keep her running, in gear, with the stand up. More options, more future rides....
