I have added some accessories to my R3T, and I now have a couple of problems:
1. I connected my Garmin 550 GPS mount directly to the battery (I bought it used, and it came all set up for it). Now, when I turn my key off it resets the clock and trips. I only connected the the positive and negatives to the battery... I don't know why this would cause the issue... Anyone???

2. I got the factory GPS connection kit, but because I ran the Garmin mount directly to the battery, I used the GPS wiring kit to hook up a 12 volt accessory plug. Now this doesn't work at all. I looked at the fuse box, and it looks like a fuse is missing... I am guessing that I will need to put a fuse in there, but I am wondering if anyone has done what I have, and can give me a little guidance.
Thanks!
D.

Doesn't make sense at all D.

I installed the GPS kit and then because of connection types I decided to run the GPS off of my Aux plug and used the connector for the GPS to run my radar detector. No problems with either connection.

Is your battery fully charged, and are all the connections solid?

Harry,
Did you have to add a fuse to get the wiring harness to work? I am going to go back over all of the connections again tonight when I get back home. Just seemed funky to me. I am no wiring genius by any means... But this was just plugging stuff in, and connecting to the battery. I guess it is not Fool Proof

I am going to pull the plug out and see if it is faulty. Just so I am in line here... There is only one place that the Wiring Kit will plug into right??

did you at anytime get close too or removed/unplugged the wiring harness plug to the gauges? If so check the connection, it usually resets the clock and trip if it gets unplugged or bad connection.

SuperD:

Two thoughts come to mind:

First, similar to others, make sure its "really" hooked up to the battery.

The second thing that occurs to me, which I don't seem mentioned elsewhere, is that the GPS may have an internal voltmeter and logic which dictates that it does not draw power when the voltage is below a certain threshold, such as a threshold at which it determines that the battery is not GETTING charge but rather LOSING charge.

The manual would say, and such a setting would likely be user configurable. Other electronic devices sometimes have such functionality, but I was not aware of this type of thing on a GPS. But ... they are getting pretty fancy.

Just a thought. Who knows. I may be talking total crap.

I found it tucked over on the right side up towards the removable plastic cover by the forks. how about you? I am sure that there is only one plug that would fit it... but knowing myself, I probably plug it somewhere I wasn't supposed to.

So I got home today and disconnected the GPS Kit, and put the plug cover back on. I decided to wire it direct to the battery. Do you think it will drain the battery??

Then I disconnected everything but the bikes + & - and turned the key on... Same **** Thing! The clock and the trips are resetting every time I turn the key off. I don't know what to make of it.... Anyone :?: :?: :?:

I am going to go down and order a D&D exhaust this week, when it comes in, I am going to have the shop install it and take a look at WTF is going on with that electrical.
