Me again, newbie here with my brand new Rocket 3 Classic.

Forgive me; this post is a little long and I have several questions....

I have windshields on my other two bikes, however I was just dying to take my new Rocket to work today (to show it off). I knew that 70-80mph wind would be tough without a windshield on her; and my expectations were correct.

So after my 50 mile ride there, and my 50 mile ride back (all on interstate) I have come to the conclusion that no more taking the Rocket to work until I get a windshield. Lower back is a little sore from the exertion of trying to stay in the saddle; whilst fighting the wind and enjoying an occasional spurt of the throttle against it (you are supposed to vary rpm's during break-in, right? )

I went to the Triumph dealer in Frederick today, and they quoted me $611.00 for a Triumph windshield, along with the needed Fixing kit! Holy crap!

So, that's a little steep, I know that this is a unique motorcycle and aftermarket parts are not readily available; compared to metric bikes and such.

I saw that Evilbob (I think that's his handle) sells custom flyshields. I do like the skull that he has. Two questions about those (for those of you who have them):

1. How easy are they to clean; bugs and such; is there a problem with the paint coming off using standard windshield cleaners; like Plexus?

2. How well do they keep the wind off of you? I know that they are not as tall or wide as a standard motorcycle shield, but want to keep the wind off my torso at least, and my helmet in full, uninterrupted airflow (no buffeting). I'm 5'10" and my inseam is 31" if that would help in the question about buffeting; relating to the height of the flyscreen.

I also have been looking at the Windvest motorcycle shields, their pricing seems to be more reasonable. I cannot tell from their website (looking at the pictures) but will the Windvest shields specific to the Rocket 3 still work, with 4" risers installed?

Any other vendors out there for Windshield applications specific to the Rocket 3?

Kindest Regards,

-Will

My one-eyed willy screen from evilbob puts the wind right near the top of my Simpson Outlaw, which has anti-buffeting strips right where it hits.

It keeps the rain off my chest, that's what I want.

Even without the evilbob work, I think the fly screen is the way to go on this bike, it fits the styling better. But, if you're a skull on a half shell kind of guy, it may not be the right fit for you.

I also have a full Triumph screen but I don't know if it will ever go back on or not. Depends on what this coming winter will be like...

I started with the Triumph Roadster Screen. Then stepped up to the Clearview that is 3" taller and 1"wider on each side.I am now running a summer screen wich is my favorite so far. Might go back to the big screen for our hard winters

I bought a Skidmarxx shield. It's smaller than the billboards Triumph sells and is designed to fit the Rock's double lights. they came complete with handlebar mounts (no fixing kit required) for about $200.00 shipped from England. I don't know if they still make them, you can check.

Just went to their website, I don't see where they are offering a Windshield specific to the Rocket 3. :(

I'm starting to lean towards taking the knife in the chest and purchasing a Roadster screen with Fixing kit.

I have the Corbin Fleetliner that I use in colder weather but in the warm weather it runs naked. I also have the driver backrest seat so I have some help with the wind. I've really enjoyed this summer riding without the fairing including sprints up I-95 and VA 234. With a full face or modular helmet, the airflow is quite comfortable.

Yes, I think a driver's backrest is a necessity for the Interstate; if you don't have a windshield. I sure could of used one yesterday.

I do wear a Fullface. My other two bikes have shields, and I was quite unaware yesterday on how tiring a long trip without a shield could be.

Irregardless, I'll still be taking my Rocket out locally and for short sprints on the Interstates around here; once I get a Windshield installed, she'll be eligible for my daily 100 mile work commutes.

Kindest regards,

Well, I went ahead and ordered a Roadster and Fixing kit from a dealer in New Jersey (thanks for the source Scott  ) and I should have by sometime early next week. Got a nice discount from the dealer.

Still am limiting my runs on the Interstate until I get some frontal protection. I do plan on procuring a Flyscreen later, but that will be next Spring. Will have more of a need for a full shield in the next several months cooler weather.

Kindest regards,

-Will
