Nitrous
Me again, newbie here with my brand new Rocket 3 Classic.
Forgive me; this post is a little long and I have several questions....
I have windshields on my other two bikes, however I was just dying to take my new Rocket to work today (to show it off). I knew that 70-80mph wind would be tough without a windshield on her; and my expectations were correct.
So after my 50 mile ride there, and my 50 mile ride back (all on interstate) I have come to the conclusion that no more taking the Rocket to work until I get a windshield. Lower back is a little sore from the exertion of trying to stay in the saddle; whilst fighting the wind and enjoying an occasional spurt of the throttle against it (you are supposed to vary rpm's during break-in, right? )
I went to the Triumph dealer in Frederick today, and they quoted me $611.00 for a Triumph windshield, along with the needed Fixing kit! Holy crap!
So, that's a little steep, I know that this is a unique motorcycle and aftermarket parts are not readily available; compared to metric bikes and such.
I saw that Evilbob (I think that's his handle) sells custom flyshields. I do like the skull that he has. Two questions about those (for those of you who have them):
1. How easy are they to clean; bugs and such; is there a problem with the paint coming off using standard windshield cleaners; like Plexus?
2. How well do they keep the wind off of you? I know that they are not as tall or wide as a standard motorcycle shield, but want to keep the wind off my torso at least, and my helmet in full, uninterrupted airflow (no buffeting). I'm 5'10" and my inseam is 31" if that would help in the question about buffeting; relating to the height of the flyscreen.
I also have been looking at the Windvest motorcycle shields, their pricing seems to be more reasonable. I cannot tell from their website (looking at the pictures) but will the Windvest shields specific to the Rocket 3 still work, with 4" risers installed?
Any other vendors out there for Windshield applications specific to the Rocket 3?
Kindest Regards,
-Will
