Life got rough on us while in Jackson Hole Wyoming and a Toyota truck turned dead in front of us, I veered right, we clipped to rt fender and bumper, did not go down.
Anyway, banged up the engine and cleaned off the left side of the bike, I need an engine, I found a '14 tour with 17k for a reasonable price, will that work? I searched and can find not much on swapping.
Awesome job on riding out that man, I pulled up the frames on parts page, they are different frames of course but the 3 engine tie down locations look the same, others will know for sure, again great job riding to stop. Post your swap for us so we can learn some stuff, cheers
The short answer is YES. And HAS been done here, under similar circumstances -- Captain with an '05 had his engine go on him (don't remember the circumstances) didn't have the resources to purchase another bike or have someone else repair his.
The devil is in the details, of course, and as long as you're willing to work through those you'll get there.
Rather than purchase a whole bike, you might want to purchase just the engine, and take this opportunity to talk to your favorite modification specialist and decide on a course of action and change the applicable components -- and while it's naked, do things that are hard to do in the bike such as check the stator, starter, cam chain and tensioner, etc. Valve clearances must be easier to check on a naked engine. Someone here might even be ready to sell you one of their spare engines.
Yes it will you will have to use the 05 gear position sensor but it will. @TheKid put a touring engine in his 07. He will be along now that he has been summoned
Yeah Buddy. I put a 2010 touring motor in my 2007 Standard. Was lucky on the gear selector, was able to just hook it up I believe, but there was something different. Anyway, you sure can. Like Warp says, make sure you remove the oil sending unit switch before removal
Thank you EVERY ONE!!!!
I guess I should have kept my search more simple....engine swap....who woulda thought.
Anyway, we did suffer some injury, my wife has a very broken foot and I got pretty bruised up....why always does the pillion receive more pain....the truck excepted full responsibility and we are being taken care of in that respect.
$12,387.00 damages to my Rocky.
Well, I guess I'll be on the Suzuki SV1K until I get Rocky rolling...love that bike.....
Thanks again everyone!!!!!
