Why do I always apply too much power

I was on my way to have a new front tyre on Friday. Just my luck after days of dry weather just as I was about to set off the rain started, not enough to wash all the crap away, just enough to raise all that oil & crap to the surface of the tarmac. I'm riding here on a worn out front tyre on right hand side. As I was coming off a roundabout leaning left I tried to accelerate away when all hell broke lose, the back ends going to the right, the front end's going left & I'm being thrown around like a rag doll. Although it only lasted for a second or so, it seemed like the end of my world. Yes it was my fault, I applied too much power too soon while the bike was too far inclined & that wasn't much, if the lean had been to the right it would have put all that force to the worn out side of my front tyre & I would have lost it all together, as it was I just carried on with my journey taking a lot more care. I would have loved to have seen the face of the driver in the Mercedes behind me, I'm sure he saw my arse twitch, (what doesn't kill me makes me stronger) didn't fel that way at the time. Be careful out there!!!!:D

Phew! Glad to hear you're okay. That is the worst feeling in the world when you're all outta control:eek: and at the mercy of the motorcycle gods.

That's the second time I've done that, just 2 yrs. ago & again now, several skittish moments in between but that's just part of cycling. It's always in the wet & I know I should do better but maybe too stupid or too old to learn. Still the bikes not been down yet & I really am going to do my best to make sure it doesn't in the future, but I know that at some point I am likely to exceed my skills on the bike, lets hope I retain the skill to correct it. From now on its get the right speed for the hazard in the right gear & hold it until I'm upright, is it really enough fun though, yea I know it's more fun than waking up in hospital or not waking up at all. I tell you though when a rocket decides to dance, you'd better be a bloody good partner. Careful, careful, careful. - until it dry's out anyway. See you around Battersea, & yes the pucker valve held out, & yes I was very naughty, & yes the gods were with me, & yes RayJay not many brown merc's about but I think his pucker valve leaked more than mine. All happy now & just today come home from scrubbing in my nice new tyre, now I can lay it down - no no no there I go again you see. :D:D:D
