I just ordered another set of rear pads for the Old Fat Bottom Girl. I went with the soft pads again (organic/kevlar combination) rather than the sintered or ceramic. The way the bike eats them I was wondering who has gone with the harder compounds to get the increased stopping power and longer pad life. I am still running the original OEM rotors. Is the increased rotor wear with the higher level pads more fact than fiction.

My thoughts have always been that softer organic pads may not last, but are one hell of a lot cheaper than rotors. Something has to wear, might as well be cheap pads rather than expensive rotors.

uh-oh, I sense a "front brake vs. rear brake" thread forming.

This thread is about brake pads, not a debate about front vs. rear.

I haven't had to replace the rear ones yet so I can't chime in on this one.

Really, still on the original rear pads? wow.

I'm only at 20,000 miles and still plenty of the original pads left. Local dealer gave me a set of EBCs when he went out of business. That's what I'll install when mine finally wear out.

I must be harder on brakes. The rears lasted about 9k and fronts about 12k. I think I use them equally, but there's more available material on the front.

I live on the outskirts of the metro Phoenix area and almost all of my riding is outside of the city. Thus, many miles at speed with little stop and go traffic. I almost always ride alone and at a rather brisk pace. Outside of hairpin turns, if I brake going into a turn I've gone in faster than intended. So, my brakes will probably last longer than most.

I have over 50k and am on my 3rd rear and 2nd front set. I went to sintered and thought they brake to abruptly, so I went back to Stock and like it better. when I was using the sintered I can say I saw no rotor wear. I'm hard on my brakes because I seem to be laughing and smiling so hard I forget that a turn is ahead and have to break hard to make it.
