Upset with reliability of Triumph materials

Nothing in the construction of the bike. Probably the headlights would be about it. They point different directions because the Americans drive on the wrong side of the road.

yip the only regional specifications ive seen in the parts lists were the headlight lens/reflector assemblies

The directional signals on the U.K. variants are installed backwards in order to conform with their madly obverse traffic patterns!:p

Don't u mean the correct way? Seeing as they're built in the UK...

I currently have a 2007 R3 with over 40,000 miles. I had the shifter bar that goes into the engine break, leaving the beast stuck in 5th gear while I was over an hour away from home. Ended up with clutch blow up inside the engine and over $3000 of repairs. After the work the machanic said the timing chain was almost beyond tuning so now when I turn on the ignition key I get a churning noise until it starts. He says this is a result of computer reacting to the timing chain adjustment. Yippeee!!
Also, he says that the shaft bearing or something associated with that is going bad and that at some unknown time my rear end will lock up. When I down shift or decelerate I hear a whining sound. Yippee2!!!!!
My first R3, an '06 had clutch problems after about 20,000 miles costing me over $2000. My first yippee!
I love the R3 ride, there is nothing like it. But I am really dissapointed in the quality of their equipment.
I ride all the time, the R3 is my main mode of transportation. Long distance (Iron Butt), to and from work, or just crusin' around.
Has anyone else had this experience with their R3?

Bob I am srry to hear you are lucky enough to get the bikes that have bugs in them. So my first suggestion would be to trade the 07 in on a newer one whether its a used one or not. This depends on whether you like the newer peg location on the roadster. I have heard for us owners of older bikes it feel weird to start but you get used to it and its pretty comfy then. Not sure as I am a die hard floor board man. SO if I got a new one I would buy the new R3T floor board set up siince the 2013 has ABS. Of course if you could find a 09 classic it seems to have all of the updates in it.

Niow before I put my 2 cents worth in on your bike I have to ask a couple questions.
1 How many miles were on the bike when you had to have the tranny split to fix the shifter rod that fell out od the shifter drum spool?

2 same question with the second gear which needed the update kit and for some reason you did not get it the idiots just fixed the second gear problem. Just asking because the updat kit came with the final drive output drive in it supplied from Triumph at no cost. Sounds to me like your 07 would have qualified depending on what time frame you got screwed by the dealer on the 2000 fix. If it was in the right time frame it would have cost you nothing. Triumph paid for everything on mine during the winter of 08 to 09. If yours was done back then then you got screwed by your dealer not Triumph.

3 with the whine in it, are you still driving it? let me frase it a different way. If its your out put drive which has engine oil lubricating it are you still running it so you can put metal shavings throughout the whole engine possibly ****ing the whole motor up? If so are you going to be pissed at Triumph because you did this to the motor? If this is a problem you need to quit running it and fix it before you have to rebuild the whole engine if it lives!!!

Again I am not sure if the dealers drive them when you trade them in or just look them over and spin it around the lot for a trade in quote but I believe if your not mechanically inclinded you should trade it in before it goes tits up and you get nothing for it. Let them worry about it and ride on with a smile on your face knowing you got the final screw!!! Don't go to that dealer to trade it in. If you get another one don't use the dealer you have had work on it as they have as many brain cells that God gave a rubber frog!!!

PS sorry to sound so ubrupt
hope this helps you though

I had around 35,000 miles on it when the shifter rod problem occurred on the second bike.
I had around 30,000 miles on it when the second gear problem happened on the first bike.
I got a little compensation on each deal but I was still out of pocker over $2000 on the first deal and $3000 the second.
The '06 problem happened in 2010 and the '07 problem was in 2012.
You are right, I need to stop driving it and fix it.
The trade up option sounds good, at least it would give me an idea.
Thanks for the ideas.
