Here is the situation....

I am a Tuneboy/Tunedit user. I recently acquired an R3T. I sent payment to Wayne for a new tunedit key. I then downloaded the latest version of tuneboy (3.9...) and loaded on my laptop. Plugged it into the R3T and launched tuneboy. Tuneboy promptly gave me the ECU serial number I needed to get the tunedit key. I sent the serial number to Emma who promptly sent me the key.

I just now got a chance to insert the new key. I hooked up my bike, removed appropriate fuses, then launched tunedit. Tunedit did not connect. Nor did I get a pop up asking for a new key.

Note: Interestingly enough, I did get that pop up prior to my getting the key when I mistakenly attempted to launch tune edit during a previous session. I am not sure if that pop up is a one time deal or not.

In anycase, I went into tunedit "properties" and added (and saved) the new key. I relaunched tunedit and again.... no connect. The text string at the bottom of the window changes too fast for me to fully understand what is going on. There is a phrase about "timing" but I cannot read the entire statement.

I looked into Waynes support section and see his fix is to de and re install the tuneboy software and do a whole bunch of other things as well.

Do I really need to go through that process? Tuneboy itself connects and seems to work OK. Is there something I need to alter in the "properties" of tunedit to get connected? Previous version of Tunedit was working fine with my previous R3.

Appreciate any thoughts!

Hi Bob,

My first concern would be the version of tuneboy......Remember I said I loaded the version off the Tuneboy site and it wasn't the latest ?

As the first step I'd send a question to Tuneboy re whether the version on their site works OK with your Rocket. Unless this is right, it doesn't matter what you do, you'll be pushing the proverbial uphill.

Thanks for the reponse Pete. Emma's instructions when she sent me the key was to load the latest version of tuneboy from their site. It is version 3.9.something. I will confirm with her or Wayne that is is the correct version. It is weird, tuneboy works fine. Tunedit, not so good!

Welcome to the world of tuneboy. :(

What I usually do is unplug the cable then plug it back in then open tunedit. If no connect remove cable, put it in another usb port open tunedit and repeat if necessary. Same with the settings in the properties section. Also make sure if you are using a laptop that it is plugged in and not running off of the battery and if you have a battery tender plug that into the bike.

I wouldn't bother checking with Emma. Wayne did say that he would ensure that the version on the website was always the latest, so it looks like it's right. Try Pig9r's advice first and I'll see what I can dig out from my issues just in case that doesn't solve it (they were over a year ago, and the alzheimers is starting to kick in)...

OK Bob first do you have that gig pro atre stuff if so you will have to disconnect the atre stuff and just use the gear indicator.
Next lets see if you have the lastes version or at least what I down loaded two weeks ago.
The cable does not have to be hooked up to the bike to check or change any of these.
first the version
click on tune edit when it give you tthe com link4 error cllick ok
then when it opens up check and see if you have a tune loaded in it. This is easy to make sure incase a load skin window did not come up.
after tune edit opens click on file and then open tune file

then a window will open up and you need to double click on Triumph

then go to Rocket Touring or appropriate Rocket/tune file and double click

now double click on the correct tune you want to run

Now that you did this go to F1 table tab upper left of screen and see if it looks like this below.

this is a tune so now lets check soft ware version by going to help and click on to open drop down menu

now click on about tune edit and your software version will show up in the green box on the screen like below.

if this is all the same numbers 3.9.9.8
you have a good updated version

so if this is working we need to check and see if your properties screen is set up right and your Key is in fact installed.

go to options and while your their make sure your in slow down load mode by placinig a check next to slow down load

now in option go to and click on properties

and a screen will open up like this.

if your key is installed right you will see it in the big white box area at the top like mine.

If it is not you need to add it by typing it in the new key box and then while your there make sure the rest of the computer info is set up like the one in the picture above.
if you do not have serail port com4 thats ok it probably soffers in the drop down box what ever port your pluged into.

Now with this stuff being the same click save at the bottom by the same I mean all the little timers and ****.

One thing I like to do is alway open tune boy dash first as you can see it link up on the screen. you also need to remember Tune boy (dash) and Tune edit may not be on at the same time!!!!!!!!!
I watch it link up with tune boy and as soon as it does I click exit and then open tune edit.
Make sure you head light fuse is out and your key on and run switch is in run. I never use the run swithc I leave it in run all the time no matter what.
When your done don't forget to put the fuse for the lights back in its funny when you realize its why the bike won't start but its not funny until you realize thats the problem.

I hope this helps let me know if I can help any further.

Wow.....actual online Tuneboy support......wish I had that when I was loading Tuneboy:rolleyes:....This could be the start of something big :D

Good luck Bob......

I don't know if you call it support but I am willing to try to help!!!:D

Wow Scott....you couldn't call that anything other than support. ;)

Screenshots are such a plus when you're trying to use something for the first time, even with written instructions. The tip about running Tuneboy first to check the connect status is one I hadn't thought of, but so obvious (I hope Wayne's paying you consultant rates). :D

Thanks for taking the time to do this.....I'll sure be filing this post away for future use (then I'll promptly forget where I filed it :) )

I hope it helps I will keep an eye out on it for him to reply and tell me if it works> I am in the miffle of trouble shooting a rocket engine in Aussie ( frocket3) on the chat line now.
