Maybe I can help, or maybe get educated, but...the way I understand it, Tuneboy essentially is a piece of software that runs on a separate stand alone PC, and acts as a "Front End" that gives a user access to the bike's ECU. or brain/computer. The kit also includes a cable to connect the stand alone PC/laptop to the bike's ECU connection.
But, software programmers, the smart bunch that they are (I wish I was a lot nicer to the lot of them while in highschool. I guess they were OK after all
), wrote an encryption or software lock into the software tied to the unique ECUZ # of the bike for which it is being purchased. This means that a particular seat of Tuneboy will function only with the bike ECU for which you purchased a key. The software is useless without that decoder key. You are supplied that key once your purshase is verified and you supply Tuneboy with your unique ECU number.
Like dragline708 said, "You can just buy a key $150. 00 to unlock ECU and use someone elses PROGRAM disc / usb CABLE, but they will always have to fix or unlock your bike . BEST to buy whole thing & sell with your bike or its pretty much useless.
Others, please let me know if all I write is correct...(Percocet is trying to kick in.)
