Triumph Rocket III Worth Hanging on to It or not?

Mine is an 04 with 35,000 miles, had less than 200 dollars in repairs except normal maintenence:)

If I were you I wouldn't even mention the mileage or brag about the low cost of repairs, even though I'm sure you were not. At 3,500 miles per year I don't think that any bike would have a high cost of repairs. Under average riding conditions you should have had at least 80,000 miles on it, if not more.
But thanks for posting on the thread. I appreciate it.

I looked everywhere, with the exception of Bike Bandit of course, and the price for a new final drive was $2,700.00
Even the dealership I took the bike to quoted me the same price. Look, I am not stupid and I don't just jump on things without doing some research. I researched the prices and all I could come up with was $2,700 That's why I bought a used one from one of the board members for $469.00
If the cost is $573.00 for a new one how come there are people selling used units on E-Bay for $800.00 and up?
Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt what you said at all. So it happens that I find it a bit odd that i could have spent only a hundred dollars more for a new final drive.
If that's the case I am disappointed too.

Before you knock someone for only riding 3,500 miles a year maybe find out how many bikes he owns. I do believe the Mexican has 4 or 5. That would bump him up to 15 to 20 thousand miles a year. I have a 3 year old Roadster that has 21,000 Klm on it, in the same 3 years I've done 300,000 Klm in my truck and 30,000 in my 4x4. Everyone has a reason for riding the miles they do, mine are 100% leisure.

You are absolutely right. I didn't think about that. But let's not take into consideration the miles you drive in the cage. I never had more than three bikes in the garage at the same time, and yes, it's true you can only ride one at the time. If I had the Rocket and two other beemers, I'm sure I would take the Triumph on leisure rides only.
Good point.

First if it seemed I implied you were stupid I am sorry I was not trying to do that I was wondering how come someone was giving you the shaft. In truth they used to be pretty darn expensive somewhere up where you are paying . I cannot tell you when the price dropped but it has and I heard it on one of the sites either .net or .com I cannot remember. I would be speaking to your dealer and asking them to check with Triumph because theirs might have dropped also.
Here is the bike bandit link to the 05 price I was referring to.

I also remember some guys on the site pointing this out to someone else who was looking for one. My guess is it was not you. whenever people have problems with their bikes they usually check here especially if its a expensive one if for nothing else maybe some pointers on how to go about getting it done or where to get the cheapest parts even if its buying parts from dealers. Sorry yours is costing you so much. Make sure they lubricate the splines with molly 60 or something as good as it. Also every time you change the wheel you should pull the final drive and lubricate it. Its not hard and its only 4 nuts and one bolt after you remove the wheel.

I know, I know, I know.... But why are people selling used final drives on E-Bay for more than a new one sells for on Bike Bandit?
I am going to call them first thing Monday morning and ask for availability. I bet you I will run into some problems...

Well, I spent $469.00 for a final drive with 40,000 miles on when I could have had a new one for just a bit over a hundred dollars more.
I'm wondering why the seller was asking that much for a used final drive. Maybe he didn't know either? I choose to believe he didn't. But is that the truth?

I am not surprised that people are still basing the price on what Triumph wants for one as that would tend to be the reference price. What is sad is how Triumph ever came up with that amount for it in the first place.....kind of screwing with the people that bought Triumph bikes to ask so much for a part.

Too bad I didn't see the post mentioning Bike Bandit and went with the purchase of the used one. Too late to complain about it but I wish I knew...
