No potato potato exhaust note for the R3

The dealer installed TOR or aftermarket pipe tune closes the secondary throttle plates more to compensate for the lower restriction exhaust to richen the mixture. Since it does nothing more than further close and restrict the intake, the tune actually reduces overall power. If you have no other plans such as a PCV to richen the fuel mapping, you will need to take the hit and go ahead with the dealer tune so the bike does not run lean. Personally, I would go ahead and do something with the filters such as triples, remove the secondaries and install a PCV along with a GiPro. You might as well get all the power from the bike you can rather than just let the dealer choke it off more just so it sounds good.

What he said! Also, don't look to make an R3 sound anything like a V-Twin such as a Harley. It CAN'T be done! The quintessential bad-assed R3 will sound like a John Deere tractor on steroids if you do it right. A deep, rumbling "potato, potato" single pin exhaust note belongs exclusively to HD...as well as a few clones and even fewer Japanese twins (The Star lineup compares well to HD in this regard, but with better performance).

Yup, and if you open one up too much they go past that tractor sound right into a Cessna 152. LOL

When I had the D&D's and got the brilliant idea to pull both baffles out, it got a little TOO obnoxiously loud and sounded more like an airplane than a bike. I went a little bit too far and was forced to turn back. lol :D

The Harley has a sound of it's own. Mine was stock pipes w/baffles removed. It's best sound was hearing it leave(absolutely no pun intended). Beautiful sound. Now as for "Velma", 2010 R3T, I hope to get a mild Zard tone. It actually sounds like my truck. Dodge Cummin's! I love to hear an inline engine. I don't know if any or all have heard a Straight Eight Indy Car? That old flathead had an 8 into 1 exhaust with a megga phone open header. I heard my first about 5 years ago, pretty cool. Anyway thanks for the heads up on this. After I put some miles on and try to check plugs and such I might go for the GI-PRO.

After reading what guys are talking about I think I need a class that shows how to MAP. I'll start looking for a good Dyno man.

Yea but it sure sounds sweet, I went with the 3 into 1 thing,
didn't sound to bad unbaffled.
Real Loud.
Baffled was sweet too,
but I'm waiting on a "special" set of pipes.
Sounds more like a decent running "old" 6 cylinder with open headers,
when cruising down the highway.
Won't ever have that 45 diametrically opposed sound,
But unique to a 3, and just as good, just different....

Split manifold?

I remember the split manifolds, also the header on a 300ci 6cyl. Those sounds are great. They all have a sound of their own. I LOVE the sound of a Rocket. The ZARD exhaust system sounds great but I don't know if they make a system for the R3T. In time I'll find out.

I noticed a definete increase in power when the dealer put my tors on and done what i figured was just the standard tors download .

The power increase came on hard acceleration without a doubt.
