2012 Rocket 111 Tourer
I have a 2012 Rocket 3 Tourer that I purchased new last year. It has 4800 miles on it. I was out for a ride today and as I left the highway and headed down the exit ramp I slowed from 60 mph to about 40 mph at which time I shifted from 5th to 4th. When I released the clutch the engine rpm's jumped way up and the bike slowed as if I slammed it down in first gear. I pulled the clutch in and shifted back up, thinking maybe I was in 2nd not third. After gearing up and while still slowing, now to about 20 mph I let go the clutch and it did it again. High engine rev and the bike slowed quickly again as if it was in first gear, I pulled in the clutch again and coasted to a stopped at the traffic light. Then I shifted down 4 times to first. The bike was in 4th and 5th when it acted this way. I didn't hear any put put put from the exhaust like normal when I gear down too quick. Just the engine RPM's going sky high ( loud whining noise ) and fast & sudden deceleration. After stopping at the light the bike was completely normal again on and off the highway.
Anyone ever experienced anything like this? The bike is under warranty. I called the dealer and they said they never heard of it before and will speak to the other mechanics tomorrow and call me back. I'm worried it may happen at high speed on the highway and result in a nasty wipeout.

Can't say I know for sure, but high revving usually means bad TPS - anyone else got thoughts on this?

I woudl normally agree with you especially since the TPS is not expensive and it would not hurt to try it out. If its not it save the other for when it does go bad. That being said the only thing that leads me not to think its the TPS is the fact he says the gearing acts like it is down a few gears. if it was the TPS when you down shifted it and let off the throttle it would try to speed up from the automatic increase in rpms. This is one I have not heard of yet and wonder if fork timing is out or one is severely bent.

Wouldn't have "engine breaking effect tho" bad Tps on the move would just have symptoms like: the fuelling all over the place,& or high,( like 2k) idleing, & stalling at stops.

Sounds like something weird in the gearbox. Never heard of this issue before. When my gearbox crapped itself, the first symptoms were : hard to shift into 5th when accelerating, & eventually jumping out of gear on every bump.( Replaced the gearbox)

Ya fourth to fifth is a few combinations of gear movements plus the actual 4th to fifth is two male dog gears meshing the dogs together not like the others where you have a male dog fitting into a female spoke gear. I sit there and look at it and am amazed at what the engineers do. I think fourth to fifth is weak but then its meant as a cruise gear with not a lot of torque applied to it except for us gear heads.
